| I'm currently shopping for my next horse and maybe it's just me but horse prices seem to be sky high. I'm starting to feel like I under sold my mare.My question is when selling, how far off of your asking price would you go for the right home and rider? |

| Yes way higher than they should be. I've seen some junk barrel horses sell for 7500-10k recently. It's crazy. |

| I've had some junk offered in trade for my Stitch filly. I lost my job to covid so no, don't need another mouth to feed no matter what it is. But I really don't need another 3D gelding with issues! There's a second Stitch filly on here for $12K more than mine so I don't think my price is over what mine is worth. I even added in considering offers to homes that will aim her at futurities. What a horse sells for is up to the buyer, and that's its worth. The good ones are a little high, the great ones are always high, and the mediocre are way high. moo |

Location: Texas | I Think prices are advertised high but if they actually get it, idk. I think it depends on your budget on how much you would expect someone to negotiate down for the right home. Like for example, if I'm selling a horse for 10k and someone offers 5... yeah right. But if I'm listing one for 35k and someone offers me 30k, if its a great home I would probably do it. |

| I just sold a kids horse that my daughter was really n the verge of outgrowing she wasn't anything super special nice trail horse, playday horse grade I have to say I was shocked bc they didn't even try to negotiate her price. That has never happened to me before. Then bought the "big" horse for her and had sticker shock but so far worth every penny but we're only a week in. |

Yep. We've already decided which horse we are going to eat first. Not joking. |

| I agree. I've been contemplating on getting another project. After selling my filly that didn't work out due to a lot of factors, I'm struggling finding something I feel like I can afford. They're either not broke with people guaranteeing the quality of parents and the young horses mind (where I got into trouble) with a medium price tag, or broke with a huge price tag. I've started looking at rescuing an off track TB because they are reasonably priced, plus they've been highly exposed. Auctions aren't helping. Not sure where the money comes from. Heritage sold that gelding for $460,000. WTH...what's the point? Slim chance he'll win that back and it's possible he'll end up on the meat truck since you can't breed to him. People have said on other threads, Don't Finance. Well who has $460K laying around? Even 15K. I don't, at least not to spend on a horse. |

Location: Down South | I look at horses listed here on BHW and I also look on FB groups nearly every day. I too have commented how high prices seemed. I am currently looking for another horse. My best boy is 17 this year. He's still healthy and doing wonderful, but I want to have something else also. At my age and rider level, I need and want something safe. I don't want to win the barrel race. I just want to have fun and enjoy my hobby. I am so Gunshy of selecting my next mount. I see all these higher priced horses and then I see something that's not really ridiculously priced and then I still question to myself "wonder why this one is so cheap"?! SIGH ! |

| ridiculousy inflated. Everyone thinks their weanling is worth 25k just because their neighbor sold theirs for that. Cannot wait for the market to come down again. I miss the days where you could buy a cheap broke prospect at 5k |

| I know of one that is 12ish grade, he has been siting for 2-3 years and when they were riding him he was more that 2 seconds off the 1D, had to lunged before getting on and was very buddy sour.....they had been complaining about feeding and taking care of him but no one messing with him. I offered $500 and it offended them....they want $2,000 for him! I guess they don't mind feeding him quite as much as they let on. I would like a backup as my mare is 22 this year but I agree with waiting to see how the prices look in a couple of months. |

They are out of proven parents but wow! For the sellers, its a good market. For buyers that do not have or want to spend an arm and a leg, its tough right now. Just curious did you buy the filly from your friend?

| I sold my finished 2D / 3D mare for $7K because she was a good fit for the girl. Now I'm kicking myself because I need to replace her. I can't even find a broke 3 year old for that price right now. I'm not sure why people think their 15 year old 3D horse is worth $15K. Or why that gelding with kissing spine should bring $25K. I'd just like to smack the people actually buying **** at these stupid prices.
I'm sorry, placing 6th out of 170 is good but not $40K good when your at an NBHA in Missouri. ?? |

Location: Idaho | Prices are crazy!! I have quietly mulled over the idea of buying another horse.. but people are nuts. I saw two horses for sale the other day.. one was broke, running 3D, solid and pretty good bloodlined, registered for 12.5K, then I saw from the same person..a non registered horse running solid 3D, selling for 12.5K. It had me scratching me head a bit. I hope soon these prices will come down. My mare is 14 and while she is currently sound, I have told my husband in the next couple years I probably will be searching for Horse #2 so that I can slowly bring her into retirement. Also we are having a baby in the next couple months, so depending if our son likes horses.. we may have to invest in a 2nd one anyway for him (but we will see. I don't plan to push horses on him). |

| I was wondering the same thing...I have a huge interest on a daughter of DTF, but she's now 8, hasn't hauled and ran much due to divorce/separation, they are still firm at 22K. She runs top 3D in their area. Mare was never futuritied, but has current xrays/exam that turned out good. I was thinking maybe 15K but they won't budge |
