I had a colt born 5 days ago. He was born pretty windswept in both the front and back. I've had lots of babies and know a lot straighten out themselves over time but this one was pretty significant.  Took him to the vet who said there was nothing he could do and basically advised to put him down. We decided to give it some time. I've talked to several people who've had babies born crooked with a poor prognosis and they turned out fine with some work put in to help them.  I've had some good tips on wrapping and splinting but havent been able to find a way that seems to work for my little guy.

What kind of issues have you had and been able to fix and what techniques, tips, tricks, and any other tidbits of informations can you give that might help.

He is very happy and full of sass, eating really good. We have him and his mom confined in a small pen in our barn. He does try to run and buck and doesnt seem to know how crooked his legs are.

Thanks!!

Find another vet! If there is nothing 'wrong' with the legs or his health then he needs help soon. I had one born with a rear about like your fellas left rear and we got it straightened up with no issues using a special glue on plastic shoe that had a wing on the outside giving support. It's hard to tell by just a pic and not a video but it looks like left rear and right front are the worst of the swept legs and the other two are overwhelmed trying to compensate. There are plenty ways to support those legs - find a vet to help asap.

Oh Bless his Heart!!! I agree with everything that Lonely va barrelxr said, get him to a different Vet as soon as possible, please dont wait any longer. I have seen babies like this get fixed, but you cant wait any longer. I had a baby that was put in casts for his front legs and turned out fine. You need a horse vet that is willing to do everything possible for this baby.

I had a baby born like this, almost identical to your picture. My advise is to find a good vet and get x-rays now to make sure the joints are fully developed. If the small bones in the joints are "soft" the baby may need to wear leg braces of some type. My foal's legs straightened out on their own, but she is 7 this year and retired due to severe arthritis in her hocks and knees. Don't know if it was something genetic or the way she was born. This was just my experiene on my first and only foal. I don't know all the technical terms for making sure the joints were developed but I used Ohio State and they were great to work with. Prayers for your colt!

I had a very crooked baby last year. Vet told me to lock her up in a small pen with the mom, keep them penned until the legs show improvement. I had to use panels inside a stall to make the enclosure small enough. We kept mother and baby in that small space for 2 weeks. Used a rasp and kept the toes slightly blunted to allow turn over and kept the rest of the foot level.  Baby, now a yearling,  is mostly straight and good to go now.

I hate to see things like this.  It always makes me wonder what Mother Nature was thinking.   Hope things go well and thanks for giving this little one a chance.

We have him and his mom locked in a small area. Gave him a week to see if he improved and all his legs seemed to be getting a little better. The one front seemed to get worse. Took him to a different vet who gave us splinting advise and directions. She did say it was more significant so splinting was advised. She wasnt too worried about the rest of his legs. She said it might be a joint that will need stripped in the future but time and growth will tell.
