We are building our house right now on 6 acres (couldn't have picked a better time )... we have rented a house for the last 5 years or so.

Who does your homeowners insurance that doesn't mind the acerage and horses?  We are not a business and most of what I read insurance carriers want a farm/ranch policy, but we have no actual farm/ranch exposure.

I have used several companies over the years - State Farm, Farm Burea, Farmers, plus others I can't even remember...... The biggest issue I have found is make sure your individual AGENT knows their business. We jumped companies three times when we first bought our current place after the agent(s) gave us incorrect information about their policies. Currently using Farmers, and the agent is top notch.

We have our 3.5 acre place insured with Allstate. Less than $400 a year for our annual policy.

I have found that Farm Bureau is probably the best. I have small acreage and they are the only ones who cover livestock and out buildings with livestock.

We currently have state auto, and I believe our premium is 2800 for the year. We have 14 acres and several outbuildings, plus I believe up to $2,000 each horse if one passes on. Our premium is a bit higher since we are like 8 miles from the closes fire station, and we added on the extra for septic tank coverage
