I've heard from a few farriers that swear by using Pam cooking spray to the hooves just twice a week can really help keep a super dry hoof moisturized. Anyone tried this? Does it work? It's cheap enough so I may give it a try.

Cheap isn't always good. Life Data has a great hoof paint. I really like it. Keep the pam for your cooking utensils 

I have used it to spray the bottom of the hooves to keep arena dirt from packing in.  I like it because it doesn't leave a yucky residue or build up and it is food grade.

Not sure why Southponytxgirl thought my response was funny but at least when other horses were busting their butt on hard pan rodeo ground us Pam users had the grip to stand up on it.

Since its a non sticking oil there should be no drag/extra weight from packed dirt so you should have a better/faster run.  Are you useing the Original are the fancy stuff like Coconut/Olive oil, which is the best running on hard ground?

All brands work decently even the dollar store brand. If I am using it for cooking though I use original Pam canola oil because it has coconut and palm tree oil no soy.

Some of my cold weather buddies use it to keep snow from packing in the hooves and that is how I got the idea to use it.

All joking aside - I have done this too. I used to have a horse that didn't run well when his feet were packed with dirt. And he did not do well with pads.

It did seem to help and have also used for winter riding.

I've not used it for moisterizing though. I think there would be better options formulated for horses.

It is a common practice amoung girls that rodeo.

I used it this past winter for the ice/mud and snow that was packing in hooves and it did'nt do a thing for us, still was digging ice and packed snow out.  

Bummer well I guess the bright side is at least it's Texas snow and ice you are dealing with.

Yep, everything is bigger and tougher here, and this past winter was a mean winter for us, so a simple thing was not so simple, lol..
