This is myself and my mares second run together and I'm still learning myself. She's 16 almost 17. Any tips on cleaning things up, getting more out of her and faster runs I know she has it in her. I welcome all advice

Your horse looks like she is really nice!  My suggestion would be for you to ride her deeper and farther up into the turns more. I like to  turn the barrel more on the backside. I think of it  like a ice cream cone and the number of scoops you have I like a 2 scoop turn which will help you finish your turns so you can have straighter lines going into the next barrel. Hopefully that makes sense, I'm sure someone else will be able to explain that all better.

As the other poster said, you need to ride deeper in your turns. You are asking and/or allowing her to turn too soon. That's why your hitting the barrels and/or having to save them.  This is utimately creating the problem of you leaving the turn by "veering out". When you cut off your pocket going into the barrel, that's about the only thing you can do to save the backside.

If you give your horse enough room going into the turn, you should be able to FINISH the turn fully, and then make a straight line to the next barrel.

Seems you've got the horse to do it and she seems to listen to you. There's some small but impactful things to change with your riding that will help.

Also, I've taken a screen shot here to show you. See how you are so far away from the barrel, yet you are already setting her up to turn? TOO SOON. She seems pretty turny so I would wait until your knee is AT the barrel before you ask.

Also, you've got your hands way up in the sky, and your inside hand crossing the plane of her neck to the outside. Keep your hands low and quiet. Drive her forward with your seat and legs. And then when you are actually ready to turn, just quietly use your inside hand to guide her around.

When you put your hands and your horse into this position, she is going to have all the weight on her inside shoulder and she won't be free to make a good move around the turn.

Is there a reason why you are riding her two-handed? I don't know that she needs it.

Looks like a nice horse that knows its job . I'd trust her more. It almost looks looks like you're over riding her (maybe from a habit created on another horse ) ?

Don't  look at the barrel, look at the ground where you need to go (to the side of the barrel. 1st barrel would've been fine if you would've aimed for a spot about 8' to the left of the first barrel before you started the turn. Turn 2: you checked the mare even though she didn't need it and you had your hands back, instead of forward . Try looking at a point on the fence to the side of the barrel instead of looking at the barrel itself. Don't sit down and ask for the turn until your horse's nose is at the barrel, until then, aim For your point on the fence.
That was a nice job for just the second run.

Great job honestly, if that was only your second time.

Just think about being quiet, stay out of her way, and let her work and do her job!
