I rode in my friends new chaps today and wow! They made me stick to my saddle like glue! Felt I could use my legs and seat more effectively. Considering getting a pair to work my horses and run in. It made me think, why don't barrel racers use chaps more? My friend does sorting and cutting, a lot of people wear them in those events she said. I honestly think they would be handy for barrel racer too.

I ran at the 4th of July race in :Pendleton in chaps, my husbAnd had bought me a pair of chinks when I was showing cowhorse events and I hadn't used them in a while.  When we loaded up to head to Pendleton he asked if I'd wear them, I figured if the man was going to drive me and my horses 12 hours for a race the least I could do was wear the chinks. It wAs funny how many sideways glances I got like "you do know you are at a barrel race right honey???"  LOL!!! I didn't care and the best part was my gelding and I picked up a check in the 2D in our chinks! A few of the girls will wear them at the winter races here as another layer to stay warm.

I'd like some leather or suede seat jeans.

I ride in a Prolite saddle that is made of all neoprene instead of leather. I absolutely love it because it holds me to it and has a nice deep seat. I feel SO much more secure in it!

I think they did years ago??  I'm pretty sure there is a photo of Martha Josey running in a pair.  I also think thats when most saddles had smooth leathers instead of rough out like today.  But yes they should help.

I don't need something else to try and shimmy into, or remember

But really I hate wearing them, even when we move cows the only time you'll find me wearing them is if it's storming.

In our area back in the 70's running in chaps (leggins) was a thing.  A couple of years ago I said I might start wearing them again since I'm older and my horse at the time was really quick footed.  I do still have a pair of them from back then BUT sure I couldn't even come close to fitting into them anymore LOL

That's a great question. I wore them when I was a teenager and then they went out of style and I forgot about them. I'm wondering if one of my old pairs still fit. If so, I'm going to try them! They can be hot though in the summer.

All it would take is someone running and winning like a top NFR girls wearing them and we would have a pair!  lol.

There was a time when they did.  I still have mine from the early 70's.

Me too!  I noticed if I am running in the rain and my jeans are wet I stick to the saddle.  THe older I get maybe I should start running in wet jeans, rain or shine.
