Do you guys prefer a 3 piece junior cowhorse bit over a 2 piece? Does the 2 piece create the "nutcracker" effect? I have one of each bit and I'm thinking I like the 3 piece better but wanted to see some opinions.
3 piece, it forms to the mouth better.
What is the nut cracker effect? LOL
I like 3 piece in general better then 2... my hands just fit them better
I agree with it seems to fit to the mouth better

Nutcracker effect is the 2 piece point jabbing into their upper palate when pressure is applied to the bit
I don't like 2 piece bits, I use 3 piece or chain mouth
Since a 2 piece is hinged in the middle and when you add pressure the bit gos into a nut cracker effect into the roof of the mouth much like a nut cracker cracking a nut.
I read a bit article that said if your horse has a small mouth, use a 3 piece cause a 2 piece will fork up & hit the roof of the mouth more so than a horse with a bigger mouth. I found this to be true with one of my mares. The fut rider used a 2 piece when he rode her & she shook her head & didn't like it. After her fut year I changed her to a 3 piece mouth piece " ed wright short shank with dog bone " & Snickers never fussed again. Another mare I have has a bigger mouth. I can ride her in a 2 piece if I chose to, she doesn't care but I chose to use the ed wright 3 piece on her to. My horses just really like Ed's bits.
There isn't a lot of difference. The three piece has a little more tongue pressure. The more breaks in a bit the more tongue pressure.

Of those 2 choices 3 piece is better. Although, my horse prefers a chain mouth
