The better ? would be when are my horses not hurt. lol Ok Last March my horse got an abcess well we have kept gettin rid of it and it keeps comin back still. Well I think he's over that now well about 3 weeks he comes out of the pasture and is missin a big hunk of meant on the front of his hock very gross. Then there is my mare who decided she wanted to take up kickin in the trailer, so we drove down the rode w/ a trailer rockin and she kept messin her legs up cuz she was kickin so much and this was all on the way to all american and youth world so needless to say she didnt run worth a flip cuz they were so cut up and swollen, so then we are goin to our last NBHA show which if I would have placed I would have won the open 1D for 3 yrs in a row. Well... when we get there some how in the last 5 min of the trip (cuz we had just pulled over) she got her hoof over the divider and we thought she had broken her leg!!! and I didnt get to ride her for like 2 months. Gosh my horses are stupid!!! but she doesnt kick anymore

The worst I've had so far, other than death, is last July my Buds got his leg caught up in fence, had to stay off of him for 3 months.  Then about two months later ( he had still not been running good. ) we took him to a vet and he had early signs of arthritis and many places in his back where out of place.  So I guess after about $600 in vet bills last year... we are good to go for now. lol

Wow, I could go on and on with this subject.

Okay,  I had my main barrel horse for about 6 months when he got caught in the fence and had it wrapped all the way around his hock.  Thank God it was just smooth wire, if it had been barbed, ol' Smoke would not be with me today.  Anyways, that healed and then he again got cut from the fence.  The next year he was pretty good, nothing major.  Just a little chiropractic work.  Then the summer of 2002, he really acted weird down at Nationals.  He was just really tired, and didn't seem to have much cordination in his hind end and didn't even try to run, which is really not like him.  I thought that it could of been from the long ride down to Nationals why he acted like that so I gave him 2 weeks off and then ran at a local fair, no better.  The next day I was watching him in the pasture and as he was just walking down a little hill, he fell head over heels.  Then he struggled to get up.   We had everything looked at from his feet to his eyesight.  We had no idea what it was.  My dad is a vet and he was just baffled from my horse.  So he took us to an equine vet in SD.  She did a lot of tests on him  and when she pulled his tail to the side while he was walking, he almost fell down.  That is how bad his hind end coordination was.  We did a spinal tap on him to see if he had EPM, which turned out negative.  Rhino, and some other tests  came back negative also.  However, we didn't test for WNV.  I don't know why we didn't.  But I"m almost certain that is what he had.  Anyways I couldn't ride him that fall so I rode a friends horse for the fall rodeos.  Then got him back last spring and started riding him.  He is 110% better and is loving what he's doing!

Wow sorry to get so long winded.  Like I said, I could go on and on about this subject.  I still have my rope horse and old barrel horse that have had their share of accidents.

I havnt had to bad of luck...with my young horse yet (knock on wood)...but he got his leg hung up in some panels but never went lame...but my good horse is another story!...the first time i really had problems with him was he pulled a shoe and abcessed...then he kept on being lame we finallt got him better...and i went to congress then to the world but took another horse to the world and he went home...well i come home after the world and take him to a show the next weekend..had a awsome run...and i got home and he was lame (thank goodness i didnt run him in the youth that day!)...and so we take him to the vet and he tore his tendon so he was off for awhile...and hes finally better from that thinking nothing else is wrong with him...well we call the psychic and she tells us he sore in his front feet and he needs chiro work...so we took him to the chiro today and his knee was out...so she popped it back in and hopefully hes all better now!...and we fixed his feet tuesday!

I think I could win the stupid horse award, but yall have worse accidents than i did. my last horse was an 18h oldenburg gelding that thought he was a stallion. he wasnt allowed to be turned out in the big pasture bc he was so crazy and he'd kill himself *i finally got to turn him out with extreme supervison* well in the paddocks we had trees and he would run into them at full speed. somehow he got a huge tree chunk to go in about 4" on his inside hind, all the way up on his leg (above the stife) and his leg was so swollen we had to put it in a whole leg cast.. that was fun to take care of.. and he did the same thing on his front leg, but we only assumed it was from a tree. He didnt really understand the concept of pain though.i hated that horse!

one girl that I was friends with once upon a time, her horse literally almost lost her left hoof, they almost had to put her down.  But after about a year and half she is seemingly as good as new. she still gets to run her. and kick butt to!

A friend of mine was hauling some horses to a ranch that he worked for.  Well he had 3 the front stall (stock trailer) and just one in the back because he was going to pick up a couple more on the way.  Well the floor of his trailer broke and the end horse fell in.  He had his butt on the ground, thank God not his legs.  My friend didn't realize that anything happened, he just thought that the horses, being new to each other were suffling around.  Well after about a mile he was able to stop (due to a lot of traffic, he wasn't able to stop earlier) and checked on the horses.  There was a large blood trail from the horse and the horse was still stuck in the hole trying to get out.  It was pretty gruesome.  My dad is a vet and my friend called me and I took him to the vet clinic for my dad.   After a couple of months he recovered.  Just has half a butt now.  He does have hair on there because my dad skin grafted it.  If you looked at him from the left side, you'd never know anything was wrong with him.  He's a tough little bugger!

Luckily we have never had much anything real bad happen.  A friends horse, used to board at our place but got a new job and moved, got a stick stuck in through her jaw and the vet could see inside her mouth so it went all the way through.  We had another horse get a mystery piece of butt pulled off.  We still don't know what happened to him but we went to check them one night like we always did and he was just standing way out in the pasture and didn't come visit like he normally does.  We went out with a flash light and he had a big chunk of his butt torn off all the way through some of the muscle.  We don't have big cats were he was and we never found the piece of him or blood or anything in the pasture so we aren't sure what happened.  My horse ripped a fence down when she pulled back on her lead.  The fence then "chased" her so she ran and got stabbed a few times by the nails in it.  She was fine though, she had some small puncture wounds but nothing a little topical medicine couln't fix.  We just get intersting stuff around her like spooking at invisable objects and ripping the fence down and getting a stick stuck in the mouth and getting a mystery chunk torn off.

1 month after I bought my gelding I noticed him limping alot when he was coming to the fence.  He had an absess.  This was during Christmas so he spent 4 weeks in a stall with no outdoor walking and was stuck in a 10 x 10 stall(the only one we have) then progressed to being able to walk out into the run and go for little walks.  He did this for 2 weeks then he was still in the stall and could be rode lightly.  By the time he was ready to go I had used about 50 pads on his foot.  Soaked it twice a day and such.  He was in a stall with no work for about 1 1/2 months then in it with light riding for 2 weeks so he was stuck in a stall for 2 months.  Took FOREVER to get him back into shape.

My mare got caught in barb wire and was bleeding everywhere.  Couldn't ride her for 2 weeks.

She also got an absess last summer 1 month before a big show but she got better just in time.  Couldn't ride her for 3 weeks

Now my accidents:

Fell off my gelding and got a concussion.  Also had a bruise about the size of a soccar ball on my stomach.  Couldn't ride for 1 week.

Got slammed into a wall at a show by another horse when I was on mine.  Had the weight of 2 horses on my knee.  Couldn't ride for 4 weeks.

Fell off at a show and got stepped on in the back.  Couldn't ride for 4 days.

Total Days/Weeks out of riding: 19 Weeks and 1 Day

That's like 4 months

the worst my horse has ever gotten hurt.  was when she freaked at the barn and ran throught the fence twice and hit her eye on the tee post and when blind in that eye.  and her whole front end got sliced open.  but she recovered.  then she ran great.  but we sold her and now she is in San Diego.

yeah i did cry for a long time! but what happened was our neighbor has this huge dog that is really freaky and mean. anyways it ended up seperating her from the other horses, ran her into our chicken shed (which paralized the left side of her face) . to tell you how hard she ran into it well...she broke 3/4 2by4s at the base. then it chased her to were she jumped over the fence. when she landed she ended up tripping and wholing. then the dog left her. my mom found her the next morning b/c she didn't come up for feed. my mom noticed that she was on the other side of the fence. she ran to the house and called the vet b/c she wasn't dead yet. when the et got there she (the mare) started twitching her head to the side b/c of all of the head trama. on the way to the vets, she flipped over on her back inside of the trailer. they trancted her to get her out. she ended up being at the vet for a couple of hours before we had to put her down. i think what got my mom and i was that she was just recovering from epm and just had her last dose. then on top of that it was the day after my bithday. i cried forever. and about her epm...we had had trouble w/ that b/c she had already relapsed twice and i hadn't even had her for a year b/c we got her on jan. 5th and she was killed oct. 24th. anyways i guess that i'll let you go!
