graciemay - 2013-12-12 1:22 PM If Marvel is one of the best barrel racers in the country, how come I've never heard of her before? I am kind of serious.

I actually have heard of her even tho I've been living under a rock for the last 6 years.

I don't watch Jersey Shore or Housewives .... and I won't be watching Rodeo Girls anymore either.

The fakeness. I just can't stand it. I read through some of the replies, but not all of them, so I apologize if I repeat.

When Barb's grey horse "tangled himself" while she was bathing him, it was completely computer animated and not real.

Obviously, they only one who actually ran during the rodeo performance was Darcy. You can obviously see the stands are empty in the barrel turn shots behind all the other girls.

And the air horn? When has an air horn EVER signaled when the barrel racer was supposed to start their run?

And I'm sorry, but Darcy can't ride. At all. What little video shots they had of the barrel race, all she was doing was holding onto the saddle horn the entire ride.

And the girl that got a 23- something run "because her horse fell"? Well, number one, her horse tripped and did not fall. However, to get a 23- time the horse WOULD have had to fall to run that slow.

Most of the dialogue during show was forced and you could tell a lot of things were scripted. Especially at the end when Darcy just happened to be standing behind the girls while they were talking about her. It was obvious it was staged.

And those are just the things I can think of off the top of my head.

I will not be watching another episode because I can't stand it. You'd think A&E would pay attention a little bit closer .... like by saying they are running in the rodeo yet there is no one in the stands watching. Details, details, details.

IMO the show is embarrassing.

I agree with pretty much everything you said but I still found it funny enough to continue watching...lol. Just a silly guilty pleasure I guess.

As for the other girls not running in the perf I'm sure they didn't want to have to explain what slack was etc. So it makes it more exciting that they are all in the perf running against each other.

It's all for cheap entertainment. It isn't suppose to be true to life or a documentary. It is just another fictional TV show.

If all you do is nit pick every aspect of it, you won't enjoy the stupid humor of it. It's like a movie. Do you nit pick every aspect of a horse movie? Or do you say 'well that's not realistic but it's just a movie so I'll enjoy it anyways'?

Non-horse people have no idea that there are slacks at rodeos. They have no idea what goes on at the trailer. They have no idea how many hours goes into just one 12-18 second run. Nor do they care to know! They pay to see the PERFORMANCE. To be ENTERTAINED.

Let it go. It's just a TV show. NOT a documentary.

Everything is staged and scripted in all of the reality shows.  Do you really think all that Duck Dynasty stuff is real?  That they made millions by those guys sitting in that room screwing off and not making duck calls?

I really liked it! Alot of fun to watch and you guys never know their rodeo lifes may really be like that. I know a few people and groups that are just like how they acted. It was alot better than i expected and if you dont count it as a reality show then you're even better off, entertainment wise. I'll definately tune in next time just to see more arenas and such on the rodeo trail I have yet to experience.

ETA: If you look up Darcy Lapier barrel racing on youtube you'll find a lot of videos of her. I really like her bay horse, he has such a nice turning style!

the thing that seems most unrealistic to me is a new racer (albeit one with money and nice horses) actually talking back to someone like Barb West! OMG if I was around a pro like her iI would be completely tongue tied much less telling her to bring it LOL. I know its all for dram but still. I Do think Darcy is entertaining and the others too but don't buy into the romantic storyline at all. I wish it was more like an actual documentary.

Well in the beginning of the show they said they were actually really good friends that go back a little ways. So all the back talk may just be some ribbing between friends

Are these girls legit pro barrel racers? Besides marvel and barb?

because I know in the episode last night the "rookies" were saying that it was their first rodeo....or maybe I heard it wrong?

They looked to be right out of high school to me. And trying their hand at making a living out of rodeo. The one girl said that her parents support her financially, so she's out there on their dime to try it out for awhile I guess.

Why the heck couldn't I have rich parents or a rich husband? I did this whole life thing all wrong.......

Define " legit pro barrel racers", all it takes to enter a pro rodeo is the money to buy a permit and pay the entry fee.

I was simply asking a question, because it seems to me that they are advertising  these girls as professionals because they have a "permit" or I assume they have one.
