TrailGirl - 2014-04-29 8:18 AM Before you start feeling sorry for the old geezer's wife...she's a piece of work herself.  In some of the lawsuits he has faced for housing discriminarion...his lovely bride had posed as a government housing inspector to gain access to the homes.  So I'd say her moral compass is a bit off as well.

The NBA is really limited on what they can do to "punish" the old fossil.  They can't take away the team or force him to sell...they can't fine him more than 1 million  (Dude is worth nearly 2 billion so he'd hardly miss it).  About all they can do is suspend him from attending the games or having contact with the team/organization. And even then I think there are limits on the time frame.

And rememer...this is all based on an audio recording of a personal conversation...it's not admisible in court as he did not consent to being taped...and this guy has the resources to fight and sue over anything he pleases.  The NBA commissioner is well aware of all of that.

Look...his comments and likely his very personality is repugnant to most folks.  But...he committed no crime and he is being vilified.  And yet there are players in the league that have committed far more atrocious acts.  Take Kobe Bryant for example...(case was dropped by the rape accuser, but he settled out of court with her and apologised...and bought his wife a big ole rock to say he was sorry) Or Ruben Patterson of the Trailblazers...Convicted of raping his kid's young baby sitter...assault, and felony domestic abuse. Ron Artest...assaulted a fan in the stands...starved a dog (and had it seized from his residence)...so he changed his name to Meta World Peace and now does adverts for PETA.
Then there's Chris Webber...cops pulled him over for driving in every lane of the freeway in Maryland he did not like it. So he assaulted them and refused to take any test for influence. The police found weed in his car and he was convicted of driving under the influence. C-Webb was also convicted of contempt of court when he lied to the grand jury about accepting illegal payments at Michigan when he was in college. Dennis Rodman, convicted of Spousal battery...and generally being a complete nut job.

And those are just examples I could come up with easily of well known high paid NBA ballers.  There are many more with rap sheets.  And nearly all of them continued to make millions...sell jerseys to kids and keep their corporate sponsors.  Why?  Fans have short memories and living the "gangsta" life is just "keepin it Real".  But you have a rich old white guy making racist stupid comments...and it's time to run him out of town on a rail.  This same righ old fart bought a failing team and turned it back into a money machine raining down on those now mortally offended ball players.

eh...I say he is a morally bankrupt human being...but then...so are some of the folks yelling the loudest for his head.  I say it's a wash.

 Excellent.

This is unfortunately one of those "Yeah, but....." Critiques of a sorry situation. "Donald Sterling is a racist pig." "Yeah, but the black players do bad things, too."
Our own OKC Thunder players spend countless hours of charity work with children, people with illnesses, homeless, hungry, etc all over the world, as do many, many other professional athletes in every sport. However, that is not sexy enough for the regular news media. Not nearly juicy enough for the tabloids. ESPN has been playing some stories this week about what black players have had to put up with for years, and it isn't pretty.
Let's forget about the "yeah, buts..." And call the relic what he is, a racist pig and quit trying to somehow justify his actions by actions of others around him.

No one is trying to excuse their behavior, just pointing out that much worse has been tolerated by the nba without much if any sort of punishment.

The NBA is not limited to those actions.  The NBA has a constitution and board of governors.  A 3/4th's vote of the governors can force a sale or strip his franchise or anything else they deem appropriate.  Each of the owners is a member of the board.

You are right...what I Should have said is that the Commissioner (who is the one that folks are calling on to act here) He is limited by the League Constitution...which you can't go read as they keep it a private document... But the limitations I listed are what has been leaked about it's restrictions.

I suppose the Board could vote to change/amend that constitution...but no doubt the other owners are leery to make themselves possible more vulnerable in the future.  And they'd better cross their T's and dot their I's...because that old fart will sue and keep it tied up in court as long as possible.

Here's my two cents worth..... One of the sports reporters on ESPN last night sumed it up he has the slave owner mentality. And this is nothing new for this guy he has a history of racism in his past. He feels that he owns them just because he employs them and they will do what ever they are told. Just because he pays you millions doesn't mean you have to agree with him.

Correct on all accounts.  The Commisioner can only kick him out for gambling.

Several of the owners have already said that it's a bad precedent to force a sale for saying something stupid.  Mark Cuban is one of them.  However, as the protests spread, and they will, the owners will ultimately have to act to protect their brand.

BTW, if they force a sale, yes, it will stay tied up in court for years.  However, the owners don't need or even care if they win that battle.  They only need to throw a pound of flesh to the angry throng in order to protect their brand.

In reality, who wrote the rule that you have to agree with or like your boss and his personal beliefs?  That's not a slave owner mentality, that's life.

Seriously, folks, what is the issue here?  Everyone agrees the guy is a jerk and a racist.    What's new?  The world is full of racist jerks.  What are we trying to accomplish?  We are responding to what the media feeds us to get us in a frenzy on a daily basis.  They control the selective moral outrage when it suits their agenda.   That's all this is.  Someone posts a C&P from "Mother Jones" magazine and everyone gets agitated.

Looks like to me if the Clippes were so upset with their owner, which is what he is,  they would have had a little stronger protest other than wearing a shirt wrong side out....oooh that took a lot of courage!   "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"  that seems to be their mentality.  Now if you were really going to protest and show maybe a little bit of courage then don't play the game and even that doesn't speak of courage in my book!    It is just a game!  America is sick with their celebrity worship.

TyE - 2014-04-29 11:34 AM  Looks like to me if the Clippes were so upset with their owner, which is what he is,  they would have had a little stronger protest other than wearing a shirt wrong side out....oooh that took a lot of courage!   "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"  that seems to be their mentality.  Now if you were really going to protest and show maybe a little bit of courage then don't play the game and even that doesn't speak of courage in my book!    It is just a game!  America is sick with their celebrity worship.

I'd play the game naked if that old, racist man paid me a portion of what those athletes make.
