gypsy1997 - 2016-02-11 1:04 PM Sonya is happy with how Backdraft did according to her post on FB. Kelly did not get any practice runs on him, just some slow work. I think they did great with the situation. He is a nice horse and is producing some nice horses.
She should be, he ran beautifully!  I really like him.

I finally saw the videos last night and I thought they looked great too!

Nevertooold - 2016-02-10 9:13 PM We just got home.

I would have loved to have seen Kelly win it. Wish she had more runs under her belt with Backdraft as she would have whupped Lyndsey IMO. Pretty hard to catch ride on 2 horses.

One of Lyndsey's horses ran out the back and evidentley doesn't have brakes and ran into her other horse.

I am sorry but I completly disagree- I've seen the Backdraft horse run for two years in AZ and he is 2d, 3d at best- not even a hand like Lindsay could bring him up further- Kelly did her best with what she was offered- and I think she is owed honors for making that horse look kinda good at best- go Kelly!  :$
Well that's kind of a crummy thing to say when his owner is one of our very own BHW members...and obviously posting on this very thread...

I get that nobody loves every horse but to just put him down like that seems a little mean. Sonya has always seemed like a very nice lady.
I do not think the OP was being mean. Just stating the obvious. I would have loved to see Kelly go in there on a decent horse a really be able to ride. She did the best with what she had and I think made the horse look as good as anyone would have been able to. No discrediting the horse in no way. He just is not the caliber you would expect to see at a run off like this.
The mean spirited comments on a very good horse like Backdraft are just that...mean. Any horseman can see that the horse is talented, and has a great quick turn....just as it is hard for a rider to jump on any horse and make a smoking run, it is hard for the horse as well...to figure out it's rider.

Congrats to both Lindsay and Kelly for being good sports, and giving us some good watching...thumbs up to each horse, it would be a thrill to make a run on each one.

To those meanies on BHW who bash folks who mess up on barrel runs...who choose the "wrong" horse and on and on...they maybe need to stop and think that it is hurtful, mean.
Seriously how would you feel if someone made snarky remarks about your horse?

You mean a horse like Can't Bully This Guy? Funny how when it's a well-known, "popular" horse, people are so quick to come to its defense and make the commenters out to be big meanies, but when it's an unknown, unproven horse, it's totally ok to have a free-for-all bash fest with it.

She didn't say anything mean or degrading about Backdraft, just made some observations about how he's been running lately because she's seen him in person.

Hello? No it is not okay to have a "bash fest" on any horse...period.

That's my point. On the embryo thread, NO ONE got called out for their rude and mean comments about Can't Bully This Guy. The lady's dobermans even got dragged into it. However, when it's a well known horse, you don't dare say anything that could be interpreted as even remotely negative because you'll get flamed for it. Just a lot of hypocrisy.

I read this post, don't personally know the horse in question.

One thing to keep in mind rodeo horses and jackpot horses are not created equal.

There are phenomenal jackpot horses that can win big jackpots, yet be a second off the fastest time at a rodeo.

There are incredible rodeo horses that can win big rodeos and be in the 3d at jackpots.

Very few can do both

jake16 - 2016-02-11 6:42 PM Its so nice to see Lindsay and Kelly posting about each other and to each other. And to see shes excited about having a Backdraft baby in her barn someday too:) CONGRATS TO BOTH LADIES ON DOING WHAT YOU DO BEST! AND CONGRATS Sonya....YOUR BOY IS BEAUTIFUL.I WOULD BE PROUD TO HAVE A BABY BY HIM IN MY BARN ANYDAY. You should be so proud of him AND YOURSELF.

thank you!!! and I am VERY proud of him!     Kelly ran against him years ago at pro rodeos when I used to rodeo and she knows just what he can do on ground that isn't Jackpot deep and how the loud atmosphere would not bother him!   That is why she choose him!  She said multiple times that if she would have had the time to make some practice runs on him she would have been able to make faster/better runs and she publicly (and privately) stated how much she was impressed by him!  Not only did Kelly compliment him, but Lindsay did also!  So, thank you to EVERYONE on here who said such nice things about him!
And do not worry, I am not taking the negative comments of Trickster J personally.  I also know that anyone who is looking for stallion options/prospects is capable of watching the videos themselves and realizing that Kelly chose wisely! I know that the opinions of two women who have won multiple world championships speaks volumes!  It was an amazing opportunity for me to be involved in and I am so proud of my boy!

And if anyone is still wondering, since Lindsay is now in the American, they rolled down at the Calgary qualifier so Chelsea Moore will be going to the semis. In other words, Lindsay still only has 2 spots to possibly go on, not 3.

Good gracious...political correctness run amok...the OP was making verifiable statements about Backdraft's latest tuns. Factual observations. The horse has been running in the 2-3 D or not...why is it bashing to speak the TRUTH???? It's NOT. She wasn't ugly, she wasn't running Backdraft down, to me...but then I'm not one who gets all wound up and runs crying home to momma when the truth hits the fan. Those were facts and observations, hon, not insults. Quitcher cryin', and come back to play with us. :) It's gonna be alright, here in America, the land of freedom of speech.

Yikes! Do you think they made her aware ahead of time that it was a possibility? I don't know Chelsea or where she's from but seems like a heck of a trip if she's not already in TX to arrange in a week. I'd be a little perturbed if there wasn't a heads up...

Curious to see if the match races happen again if they are a bit better organized when it comes to folks having other qualifiers, how many horses etc.

Luckily for Chelsea she is already down south hitting some of the rodeos so she is ready to roll :)

Man that is the truth!!! I've got a sorrel who rarely runs in the 1D at jackpots but is a killer rodeo horse. That shallow ground doesn't faze him a bit. There are also so many other factors - pen size for example - that play into how a horse clocks. Hard to label a horse 2D/3D etc with only seeing them in one type of setup.

On the topic of Ima Firefighter, I'd love to have one of his babies. I have drooled over his ads for years but don't think it would work very well to breed any of my horses to him since mine are all geldings LOL.
