I think though the show does look boring like amish mafia / real house wives with horses... at least it will open peoples eyes to the sport... though its not really like that who cares If it grows the rodeo scene..more people buying tickets and larger fan base = more $ for rodeo producers as well. I try to look at the bright side... Ummmmmm.........Don't think so.........reputable companies want respectable contestants to represent their products…….not trashy women! Many times, contracts have a “moral standards” clause.
If it were a lazer hair removal giveaway I would be all over that. Then I wouldn't have to drag no shave November into Dec, Jan, Febr, March.

It's for sure not going to be an accurate portrayal of the countless hours each day that are spent doing the things necessary to get a horse and rider to the top, but I bet there will actually be more truth to what is shown than most people will care to admit.
This just bugged the crap out of me. You claim to be professional but your going to watch something that will shine a negative light on our sport, a sport that get's little to zero coverage, and this is something you think the general public that knows NOTHING needs to see?
I was one who tried to make a go of it on the rodeo trail. I assure you those who are serious are to busy competeing then loading and heading out to the next rodeo. You drive all night and back then I didn't have living quarters....I slept in the back seat of my truck, or on a cot in the horse trailer. AND I assure you I wasn't the only one doing this. Leave on a Thursday come home on a Monday and get packed back up to repeat.
This belongs on the other thread but yes I did pack a bathing suit, because it was nothing to put one on in the wee hours of the morning or evening and grabbing the hose and taking a nice freezing cold shower after a mud run or just because you needed a shower.
There are good rodeo families out there, they are who we need to watch. Not this garbage.
For the record....I saw more mattress hopping and late night "let's get drunk" fests at the 4-D venues.

I'm sorry that it bugs you so much that I enjoy trashy reality TV. I am a major fan of Bravo and watch the entire Housewives franchise, as well. Do I feel that this is an accurate representation of how rodeo girls in general behave, not so much. Do I think that there are girls way worse than this out there hauling down the road? Heck, I count a few of them as my favorite hauling buddies! Yes, I do consider myself a professional. This is what I do in order to pay my bills. I do not however believe that that, in any way means that I, or any other professional forfeits their right to be human. I can tell you, there have certainly been times and situations where had a camera crew been around and things were shown out of context, my actions might make these girls seem tame. I have Youth riders who's parents send all over the country with me. I am the one at the parties at night who has not had so much as a drop of alcohol, but enjoys myself nonetheless.

Location: Bastrop, Texas | It's kind of funny when I look back on my 7 years or so of barrel racing. I started watching barrel racing at horse shows, etc..., then I watched people practicing/working their horses around the pattern and I just wanted to do it because it looked fun and I thought it was right up my alley. I jokingly sometimes remark that I love barrel racing because I get to be surrounded by beautiful women, and that I think there's nothing more beautiful or sexy than a woman on a horse. That is true, but when I am out there I am so focused on doing the best I can do, I don't really notice anyone all that much....not in "that" way. Oh, my eyes do wander alright, but not all that often. I usually don't think about this, but there are times when I may be one of 2-3 men running in a jackpot. Last year, I ran in several jackpots at NDSU, and I think I was the only man who entered throughout the entire series. Whenever I stopped and realized this, I felt weird.....like maybe someone would think I am a "sissy" because I like to run barrels....that sorta thing. Here's my point.....if I would have watched this upcoming series before considering getting into barrel racing, I don't think I ever would have considered it. I like to dance, but it's been a long time since I've danced the tango, swing, or salsa. I took lessons because it looked fun to be able to dance a tango real well. If my dance instructer included "twerking" as part of the class, I never would have taken a lesson. That's what this A&E series sounds like. It sounds like it is degrading to a sport I love. I don't think I will watch it. If I want to see sexy beautiful women on a horse, I will just go to a jackpot and get a much needed dose of humility at the same time while they kick my ass. It's a win-win.

But there's the rub, most of my best hauling adventures have been on the rodeo road, not to the divisional races. I don't think it's going to be a hit. I also don't believe that this will make the uneducated masses have an opinion about barrel racers in general, just he girls who opted to be on the show.

I 100% agree!! I will be watching it if for nothing else entertainment purposes....which is the point of reality TV. If it bothers me and I feel offended or I don't enjoy the show then I won't watch it but as of right now I have the date on my calendar and I can't wait. I am also not one to be a party girl, hussy, or a drinker but I can guarantee if there was a camera crew following me around all the time they could find and edit some footage to make me and my friends look like such. I don't drink much at all and when I go to rodeos I am there for business but there is one rodeo a year that a group of us that went to college together meet up at just for the good time....we call it the WeFest of rodeo. It is a weekend of bonfires, dancy, partying at night and rodeo during the day. I still probably only have two drinks (like I said I'm not a big drinker) but I still let loose and have a great time so I know with some editing it could easily look like my friends and I just go to get drunk and look for guys (even though most of us are married and WITH our men! but that is what editing can do).
The only person I really saw in the trailer for the show being nasty was the rich older lady....the one who is producing the show....I can't remember her name. She is doing the show to be famous like the desperate housewives...that is obvious! Everything is scripted and based around her drama. Everything else was just short little clippits for shock effect. Anything can be taken out of contexts when edited to a 2 second clip. They do it to draw you in and then when you actually watch it you realize it wasn't as dramatic as they made it seem in the commercial.

The problem with what you're saying Wrap is that to the general population, perception is reality. When people who know little to nothing about the sport, after watching this trashy and disgusting 'reality' TV show they're going to think that all barrel racers act and behave the way the girls on the show do. I don't know about you, but I sure as heck don't want someone to label me because of another persons actions, nor do I want the sport that I love to be tarnished with trashy people that the show is hosting.

Would I rather watch a show featuring Sherry Cervi or Christy Loflin? Absolutely. But I also think this show is going to backfire in these girls' faces. I don't really think it matters if the general public thinks that's how we behave...they don't come to jackpots now, and they probably still won't come to a jackpot. Anyone who knows any of you in person probably knows that you don't barrel race in a bikini. Yes there are going to be some people that might think that's how girls who barrel race look/act, but for the most part it is SO SCRIPTED I don't think anyone with half a brain is going to believe it.
ETA and like someone else pointed out, Barb West actually is a good barrel racer. I'm not sure what she's running now, but she had a really nice little horse a few years ago.

Seriously though being serious here, really? It's a realty TV show. Who cares? It can only represent you if you let it. I've done rodeo when I could half way ride and the D races now that I can't ride. Some of what I've seen in those clips look fairly representative of what I've seen in my almost 30 years barrel racing. Some does protest too much.
