Location: 31 lengths farms | Sorry for leaving you all hanging... CC had some trouble coming out of the meds and a bit from the epidermal. They put her back on the IV drip to help flush them and just had to wait it out. They kept her in the belly sling for quite sometime to make sure she wouldn't fall. She is back in her stall and doing pretty well. Tomorrow they will scope her and see if she needs to be flushed again, for that she won't need the heavier meds.
Antibiotics and some banamine for the night and to come home on. Recommended to have her bladder ultrasounded every 6 months for awhile as well as the previous diet changes for the kidneys. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Initially we just knew about the bladder stone after having her ultrasounded when she passed blood. The. We found out about the kidney stones which they basically can't do much for. I was told to take her home and put her down. Did some research , put her on a regiment of Equine Natural Care herbs for kidney, immune and lymph systems as well as changing her diet to grass hay. That was in May. In June I started her on some essential oils also, one that was recommended by Doterra and another from a board buddy. Also had her Bioscanned a few times a month, really noticed that she urinated much easier and more fully for a few days 4-5, after wards. We wanted to see if we could keep the kidneys functioning at a appropriate level to make the bladder stone removal worth the shot and obviously it appears we were able to do that. The vets were pretty excited to see heathy looking kidney, albeit with a stone in it, and it is producing urine just like the right stone free kidney . That is the goal, to keep the functioning at as high a level as possible so will continue with what has seemed to work so far. |

Vet doing the ultra sound was amazed. She said that normally a kidney with stones in it looks knarley, CC still look good. I'm crediting the herbs:-)
What great news! :) |

Location: 31 lengths farms | There was one less kidney stone this time, there were 3 last time, this time only two which were the same size it appeared to be as the ultrasound in May. Also, the two smaller bladders stones were gone which may very well been why she passed blood in September the one time.
I'm checking to see if I can attach the photo... |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Talked to the Vet that did the surgery, CC is doing exceptionally well, urinating fully. They were removing the IV Cath shortly after I spoke to him around 11 and then were thinking they would do one more Morphine shot thru the epideral IV and then take that out also. He felt I could take her home today but we have decided to leave her until Saturday because A) its raining and we don't have a stall and B) I want to make double sure she is ready to come home to STAY :-)
This was the first time he had used the retrieval bag for the stone so he was pretty excited about how things went. Seriously, I think it was about 20-30 minutes from the time they got the stone in the bag to when the student in charge of CC came out to show it to me! Before this he said they take 2-3 hours and in the past had to go back in the next day to complete it the removal and finish flushing the bladder.
Also, adding a link...this is the type of surgery along with the retrieval bag that they used. CC being a mare obviously did not have to have the Perineal urethrostomy. The benefits of being a girl :-)

Location: 31 lengths farms | Picked her up today... About 50 minutes from home. 10 days of antibiotics and 3 more days of Banamine. Discharge says she can return to normal exercise routine..., think we'll give that another week or so:)
I hate to continue to bore you all but I will be periodically updating this as our journey still has a ways to go, thank the good Lord!!! |
