Not sure what this means for the franchise etc. I can't believe they are actually going to go through with punishing him. I agree with Mark Cuban's comments- It's a slippery slope punishing him for that. What's next? People who are against gay marriage, certain religions etc? (Normally I don't agree with Cuban but here I do) I don't think they have any right to punish him at all. Yes, he's a complete jerk but he has a right to his opinions, especially those stated in private. Makes me sad, the Clippers are one of my favorite teams to watch. This is all very bad timing for them... He still owns the franchise for now. The suspesion will prohibit him from active participation in the activities of the team. It probably removes him from the board of goverors also.
I agree with Cuban also. Very dangerous precedent to set. Holy smokes! Lifetime ban and a STRONG request to sell the team, period. The fine is peanuts.
There goes that slippery slope...
That's going to hurt.........he is 81.............. |

I thought I read there was a way to "remove" him as owner of the team with enough support from certain big wigs. Is this even possible? To "force" someone to sell something that is rightfully theirs? It all seems a little whackadoodle to me, even if he is a racist pig. |

But I don't understand how you can fine someone 2.5 million, and ban him from the NBA and all of it's business and are trying to force the sale of his team for having an opinion? I disagree 100000% with his comments and opinion. But I don't understand how saying that could give him this result. He didn't do anything illegal and it was said with the intention of the comments not leaving his own home. But I don't understand if he has that opinion and is that comfortable talking about it, why was he dating that girl? I loved D.Trumps comments, "Wow, the girlfriend from hell!" bahaha. |

Yes, when they talk about "owning" the team, it is actually "owning" the franchise. It takes 75% of the current franchise "owners" to force him to sell, which I don't think they will have any problem getting the support.....those 75% certainly don't want THEIR players to walk out in protest and refuse to play. |

I personally think, if this is the precedent the NBA wants to set... they had better start taking a hard look at their players! |

I think most of you are missing the point.....the NBA is taking this stand because the majority of players are black and what happens if (and some have already voiced opinions) all of the black players refuse to play.....no players....no games.....no money for the other owners..... |

Then when those black players make racist comments about white people (and they do).. then they need to be fined 2.5 million and be banned for life. I am not saying he didn't derserve some reprimand, but this is a little extreme and violates his personal rights in my opinion. I don't agree with his remarks, but I don't agree with the severity of the punishment for remarks made in private.. not public. Let all those black players boycot, there are lots of others that would gladly fill their shoes! |

ALL NBA players will walk, white, black, Chinese, etc. And if there were enough GREAT players out there to take their place, they'd be the ones playing the game. NBA contracts the best players, regardless of race. I'm sure there are a handful of exceptions...
Then you have the Sponsors who are willing to pull their $$ = Huge loss in revenue
Add in the fan base that are willing to boycott games = more lost revenue
The pressure was definitely on the NBA to make a stand. I don't fully agree with their stance, but I understand where they are coming from in regard to the over all business of the NBA and all franchise owners.
Sterling was not a popular owner and he comes with a LOT of baggage. I think this was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
When your personal actions affects EVERY team in the NBA and the NBA as a whole, the rights of the whole out weigh the rights of the individual. Business is business... |
