| I haven't bred anything to him yet, obviously. I haven't even got to bring him home yet. |

doesnt mean we dont like the horse .
I was not being rude or anyone else on here, you post and ask our opinion's on a public board and we are giving it. What has this stud done in performance wise to want to breed to him? I still think he will made you a cute gelding, and he will have a better chance in life being gelded, I know that your trying to help him out and hugs to you for having a big heart , I have been in the same shoes as you at one time and I found out it was better to geld. |

Given his tough background, I see no problem in putting weight on him, getting him in shape, and then deciding what to do with him. You don't sound like a backyard breeder, his pedigree isn't bad, and the pictures may not do him justice.
If the worst that happens is you breed him to the five mares owned by people who sought you out, then you cut him, so be it. From what you've described, it sounds like you want to see what he can do, which may include seeing if he can prove himself in the pen. If he does and he's a good boy, then leaving him intact is up to you.
Stallions aren't for everyone, but you don't sound like a novice. Good luck with him. |

I'm going to agree here.
His pedigree does nothing for me. There are some horses on it that are nice, but they aren't close. He has no performance record. He doesn't look like stallion material in the pictures. His conformation is not very good and weight will not fix that.
He has had a rough go and I applaud you for attempting to make him into something.....my opinion is that it should not be a stallion.

| I've been known to take quite a few gambles on horses. They all turned out great and are kicking butt today. I would have done the same thing as you have. I hope he turns out great for you, Good Luck! He's got a kind eye like someone stated before. He could be a diamond in the rough. |

| To play devils advocate: I don't think she asked for anyone's opinion on to geld or not! She wanted suggestions on names....
Jake
Opossum
Chance (since your taking a chance on him)
I don't know any more... I 'm not good at naming anything. Anything on our place is lucky to receive a barn name. They are usually just referred to as the brown mare, that sorrel gelding, paint, red, the crazy one, the witch out there....

You post asking anything about a horse and you will get opinions, if you ask for them are not. But I still say a better gelding then a stud. Heres a few names: Chip Rounder Snip |

| Thank you for the name suggestions! I love Tadpole and Chance and Gambler. :) I think I'll wait til I get him home and see who he really is and try them all on him and see which sticks.
And as far as the concern for his being a stallion go, I'm wondering how anyone can expect a horse to have a performance record when he was never given the opportunity? This horse has never been given a chance to do anything to make him worthy. And I plan to show and rodeo him heavily and see what he can do in an arena. I understand that most people wouldn't breed to him, and that is their right. There are several horses that are proven and have a good reputation that I would never breed to. Everyone has a differing opinion on horses, bits, saddles, training styles, bloodlines, etc., etc.; the list goes on and on, as far as the eye can see. And that's why there is such a huge market for so many different things in this industry. Bad things happen when everybody gets hooked on the same thing (HYPP) and it creates a terrible name and reputation for anything that comes behind it that's related.
Anyhow, I am excited about him and am very much looking forward to seeing him healthy, in shape, and turning a set of cans.
Thanks, y'all, for your input. |
