I don't know what most of the abbreviated names are lol

I liked the sound of the Leo horse but I'm just not sure about breeding to a paint stud. Wouldn't that make the colt have paint papers?

Sorry I'm very illiterate at this stuff. That's why I'm starting a year early....

Frostburns! he throws some really nice trainable babies!! I have rode/broke 3 and they are easy to train! My colt you can not ride him for months and come back and he is right where we left off, no re training! Good minds! Love them! If you like Leo look at his pedigree

I really like what I'm seeing on Frostburns. Does anyone have other input on him?

Smashedonpepper - 2013-12-07 2:03 PM Very tickled that 3 people recommended Mr TT Pacific! So excited to see 2 of his babies work next week at the BFA...out of 2 differently bred mares. His offspring want to please!

Here is my coming 2 yr old from this past week...

Thing same thing my mare is 15.0hands and of a mare goes back to lady bug moon, by panama edition, want good temperment, trainabilty, on ground disposition, and speed, everything you would want if youmwhere buying a horse, plus marketabilty. And of course want to breed to better my mare. My mare is a thick built tanky mare and a free runner, her only fault is she does get a little up at the gate, but does work once running, nothing crazy just a little over ready. Have a weanling by a son of corona cartel. Just want a horse that has some marketability this is too sell, first one i will keep also wanted to,see what see would throw. My baby is a carbon copy of her with a super disposition.

I rode a bunch of colts out of a grandson of Streaking Six. I actually own one. They seemed to have a sound mind. Haven't seen any blown up or refusing the arena. Although, I noticed alot of them had a tendencies to have strange quirks, like spooking, ect.

A line I LOVE is Moon Lark bred horses.

Another really nice line is Dr. Nick Bar. There is a stud around here that turns out awesome horses.

But anything Speed with Cow I think is best.

I am a huge fan of Jet of Honor....I'd never owned one until my current horse, but after riding and owning one, I know why so many have made it to the NFR. OregonBR has a really nice Jet of Honor bred stallion that I would love to get a gelding by, but so far have not been able to afford the ones I've found. ;) Anything Flit Bar has my vote as well, but they tend to be a little more fragile minded than the JOH's...but sounds like they would cross well with your mare. On the Money Reds are very honest and usually have lots of speed, but tend to be slower maturing than the first two. I have REALLY liked the Red's Western Natives I've had...I think he is an undiscovered secret. Everyone of them I had were natural barrel horses and very consistent and honest. Of course, I like the Dash Ta Fames, there's no need to tell anything about them; they've proved their worth in the arena. I also like Bully Bullion (although they can sometimes be hard headed), Easily Smashed (sometimes hot tempered), and anything with Easy Six (Streakin Six, Packin Sixes, Six Fols, Martha Six Moons, etc.). I do NOT like anything with Beduino or Zevi anywhere in the pedigree, or Hancock. Not saying there's not good horses out there bred like that because there are, but they just don't fit with my program. I like easy, ride once a week, natural barrel horses, and the ones I like are like that. Ooopps....sorry...just read your post about your mare's bloodlines...wasn't dissing your mare....if you like her, then GREAT....I just don't like those bloodlines for ME. I was surprised to hear you say she was free running....with Peponita and Doc O Lena, I'm surprised. Most of the ones I've seen bred like that are S.E.T.T.Y!!! LOL I figure it's the racehorse bloodlines in her. After reading that, you might be better to go with a Flit Bar bred or Dinky's Red Man bred stud. JMO

casualdust07 - 2013-12-07 8:56 PM my wish list of colts I want by: Blazin Jetolena A Streak of Fling Firewaterontherocks Frenchmans Guy and I would love a jet black patriot or a valiant hero!

I have a 5 yr old mare by ASOF and she is anything but quiet, laid back or user friendly...the things the OP was looking for.  Mine is chock full of talent and try but she is waaayyyy over reactive to everything and is really watchy.  In the wrong hands she could be a nightmare, in the right hands she could be amazing.  Only been working with her a few weeks so we'll see what kind of "hands" I have.

No I'm saying all ASOF's are like this - I don't know - this is my first and I've heard others say the same about their own.  I'm not saying they aren't talented but so far mine is NOT user-friendly.

I would still like to try one. On page one I answered her questions more specifically... I've seen quite a few that I have liked in person. I wouldn't breed just any mare to him but I have one or two that I think he would cross really well on.

I've seen 5 I think from my trainer. One of her clients buys at almost every sale. The first one they bought is super nice, she is out of a FG daughter. I remember she had a little personality to her, they called her a diva. I would ride her any day. They had one gelding they bought at the sale but he wasn't from the fulton ranch- they said he had some attitude but has come around nicely. The third one they have has been a total dream. The fourth one they had was out of a cutting bred mare and my trainer bought him from her. She ended up buying a finished ASOF too to high school rodeo on.

So from what I know from those 5 there seems to be some that are super user friendly and then some with some attitude.

My confederate leader weanling is going to be hot IMO. I can see it now from how she acts with everything else. My first down french colt is so chilled out all the time.

I'm hoping my mare will turn the corner soon and realize we don't eat horse's at our house...cause right now that's how she acts.  She's scared of anything that moves, and if it doesn't she's scared cause it *might* move.

Two Eyed Jack on the bottom.       She has the "watchy" ASOF paired with the  "tough" 2EJ.  Combine that together and what do you get?  A tough horse that is scared of everything.  LOL

If only I could convince her there isn't a roan horse eating boogie man behind every door, or every corner, or every leaf, or every dog, or every bale of hay, or every cat, or every....you get the picture.

Honestly she doesn't have a mean bone in her body and she really is trying to find the right answer so I'll give her a B+ at this point.

Sorry to steal the post OP.

I don't know what most of the abbreviated names are lol

I liked the sound of the Leo horse but I'm just not sure about breeding to a paint stud. Wouldn't that make the colt have paint papers?

Sorry I'm very illiterate at this stuff. That's why I'm starting a year early....

You know, it would be nice of someone to make a key to the abbreviations. Those of us who think pedigrees all day every day get to thinking the whole world shares our obsessions . . . ha!

To the OP - yes, if you breed to that Paint horse I think you will only be able to get Paint papers. Some overos also have QH papers and then you can breed a QH mare and get a QH colt. This horse's ad doesn't indicate that he has both sets of papers. Just looking at his pedigree on allbreed makes me think he can't get them either - because the Paints go back so far in time.

Don't apologize. The whole Paint/QH thing has changed a lot lately and was always confusing if you don't deal with it all the time. Our Paints are tobianos so we don't have those double registered/cropouts to deal with.

Starting early is a good idea!

ETA I'd look at Firewaterontherocks (FWOTR) and Dash For Perks (DFP) bred horses including Perks Alive. Pretty good balance of conformation, disposition and ability there.

My Letta Hank Do It daughter is a gentle giant. She is out of a BA75/Harlan bred mare. Very laid back and easy to get along with. Excellent mind. She is 5 years old, but handles things like an older more experienced horse. I've hauled her to local jackpots, big 4D's, and rodeos. I was a little worried about the rodeo situation because she kind of got thrown into it when my older horse was having issues, but she really was great. She will calmly warm up, make a run, then calm right down and walk out of the arena. I can throw my boys in the saddle after a run and lead them around while I cool her out.

This mare is built like a tank. She's at least 15.2 and over 1,250lbs. Lots of muscling and good bone. Her weak point is her head, which is typical of the Hank babies. She's a longer bodied mare, but overall is well-balanced.

Todays breeding quarter horses have good minds. It mostly comes from the mare. If she is offish and non social so will be the foal. If you imprint right away you can change those odds. Breed for conformation. When the foal is born channel all the good things you want in a horse. Be sure to feed well as that foal will need to be strong and healthy.

JMO

My mare is a push style. She's young so I don't push hard to the 1st barrel yet but after that it's push till your legs fall off. She's very cowy. I have her cousin too lol. He is the cowiest and shortest QH I have ever seen. 13.3 and will get his belly on the ground chasing anything the moves. He's coming 3 this year. Hopefully I'll have my hands onny mares only full brother in a month or two.

Anywho, I have checked out Frostburns & Mr TT Pacific. I'm not much of a palomino person but I don't really care what color it is long as it's healthy and cool tempered.

I'm going to check out some jet of honor horses.

I don't think you can go wrong with a First Down Dash son.  They are fast and the ones I've been around have good minds.
