Again, I say I'm no expert.....
I agree-they are there with their horses, they're the ones that worked for it.
My question would be, when do you start playing conservative to possibly stay in the average money vs. trying to get a smoking run?

This, is a perfect question. I would like to know too. But seeing how we aren't there and as someone else stated we don't know the game plan. It would be kinda hard. If it were I, I would try my best each night and try to stay up there in the money as well. Go big or go home.

I would hope the same thing.
Thought just crossed my mind, so I figured I'd spit it out--not just for her but all the riders.
You can win good money each round-but the average you can really rake it in! (and there's still a lot of rounds to go!)

It's been said time and again that if you want to win a world title, you have to have a horse that will excel in the T&M. In my mind, it's one of the trickiest setups of any rodeo. Until you get there and get that horse running through that pattern a couple of nights, with that atmosphere, you just don't really know how one will handle it. You might get there on a great small pen horse, thinking that they're going to be a great fit, only to have them not fire in those particular confines. I know that for me, if I were to have a horse make a couple of good runs where I just didn't feel like they were getting "free" in that pen, I might think to myself "Self, my horse is working well, but boy, he sure doesn't seem to want to clock in here. You know, I probably don't have a shot at a World's Championship, but wait.... This is still a rodeo and winning this particular rodeo pays pretty dadgum well! Maybe I'll just keep making those pretty runs and let the clock sort itself out".

Side note..... Is it just me, or does it seem some of the horses are having a hard time digging in and getting around?

The TM is notorious for having hard ground.

Sherry said the in interview at th buckle ceremony that th ground was really good this year. As many horses that are running under 14 from top to bottom makes me think the ground is fairly decent & consistent.

That sounds like one heck of a strategy!!

I think Christy is doing great! Don't forget Movin hasn't been to t&m... give her some time. I have no doubt she'll make some noise. I think Christy is focusing on getting her groove, we all know that mare can fire. She had nothing to prove.

Do your thing Christy and Movin!!

WrapSnap - 2013-12-09 12:19 AM Why is it that people place such expectations on these girls and their horses? We all know that they are great horses and jockeys. If they weren't, there would be a whole different set of barrel racers running up that alley, a set of barrel racers who weren't able to get atop that list because these 15 girls won enough to shut them out. What I don't understand is why that seemingly gives anyone the impression that it should be acceptable for anyone other than that contestant, the one sitting on that horse to infer that they are doing any less than their level best each night. Each of us goes into each competitive setting with a different mindset. We each process and interpret things differently. I don't know what any of these girls' mindset, or strategies are and I won't pretend to. What I do know is that they have managed themselves and their horses so well up until this point that they have made the NFR, some of them multiple times now. Based on that alone, I'm sure not going to question their reasoning for doing what they do. I'm just going to tip my hat to them for having reached a huge goal, for having set out on a mission and attaining their goals. They're the ones living the dream and far be it from me to tarnish that for them by criticizing their decisions.
You are so spot on as always

I second that.   To me it just shows how tough the T&M is even for the creme of the crop riders and horses.  10 perfect runs anywhere is tough but in the T&M at the NFR with the pressure,  noise, etc., I am sure there is a lot to figure out and get your groove.

I thought the ground looked a little better this year than last, but rodeo ground is notoris for being bad. But it could be a little loose and dry on top and really hard underneath. Dont know the ground effects even high end rodeo horses.

Thank you Andy.  I wish you had been around earlier when someone tried to say that Mary Burger and Mary Walker were flukes.

My new goal, lose 50 lbs and become a fluke.  I don't even care if I can get to Vegas, I just want to turn out the sort of barrel racing machines those ladies have over the years.

I don't care what people wear either, but if they'd let you run, you'd have my vote for best dressed!

We can be traveling partners and be Old Biddy Flukes together!!!!!

It will take me a couple of years though because my hope-to-be NFR mount is only 2. But I have to lose that 50 pounds before next December.

Now I just have to learn how to ride again and I'll be doing GREAT.

I wonder if sometimes when people are scrolling on their phone, they accidentally hit the "dislike" button. I know I've come close a few times, and may have actually hit it, when I had absolutely no intention of doing so.

I would love to see SKM, KMCSunshine, and y'all out there. What I wouldn't give to know a quarter of what you guys do!

Why isn't she pushing Movin?? She's just been loping her the last few nights. It's kinda aggravating me Dx. I know that little mare can get some!

Oh and Fallon. Is she gonna hit a barrel tomorrow night?? I seriously wonder how she's made it to the NFR if she's hitting barrels like that.

There is no doubt that this week has been a struggle for a few of us. This pen is the toughest pen you will run in all year and and for me personally I'm have a little tough time getting my timing right. On top of that we all have 500 people texting and commenting on how to ride, what we are doing wrong and how they hate what we are wearing. What you don't see is the top 15 are busy from 5am until 11 pm working, meeting with fans and special needs children, meetings and a million other things that pull us in a million different directions. We are blessed to be here but please keep in mind and respect that we all deserve to be here, worked our butts off, made sacrafices that others wouldn't have the courage to and earned our spots because we are the top 15 in the world. This is a great group of girls that represent our sport very well. So if we hit ten barrels and fall off and disappoint you a with how we ride please at least respect us enough to stay positive. We are doing the best we can.
:)
