If they want to increasing viewing they really need to figure out a way for it not to be in the middle of the night for those of us on the east side. I can not stay up til 1am and be up at 5am for work. I know it's live and in vegas but could they not at least move up the start time on the saturday and sunday rounds? And I totally relied on GAC re airing it the following evening so I could watch it during dinner. Now even though I have Directv I have to watch it via youtube. To me they just are never going to have the top viewing they could have with it being so late at night.

I saw that last night.  I have loved the coverage on GAC; they treat it with importance and not just some sideshow to throw in between basketball games.

mdg - 2013-12-10 10:27 PM I think this is great especially for me since I don't have cable or satellite lol but some of you may be right you may not get the full coverage but I bet with the probably do is put it on like a CBS Sports Network which is still not on like a digital Antenna TV you would still have to have cable or satellite to watch it but hopefully notthis is like Monday Night Football I wish they would bring it back to regular TV just my opinion ladies ya have a good one
If you don't have cable or satellite, then you won't be able to see the rodeo. This is not the regular CBS program. This is part of a cable/satellite package. Like someone else said there will be competition with other sports on the channel. I am pretty sure this is the same channel that airs PBR. They do ok. I hope they don't lose the quality of coverage that GAC has.....I am afraid they will.

I have a feeling the CBS sports channel may not replay the thing at all. I hope I am wrong.

PRCA Announces CBS Sports Network as New Home of the Wrangler NFR

[PHOTO] PRCA commissioner Karl Stressman at the annual Wrangler NFR press conference.

LAS VEGAS — The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) announced today its 2014 and 2015 television plan, featuring CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) as the new home of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. CBS Sports Network, which is available in nearly 60 million households nationwide, will also become the home of the PRCA’s Wrangler Champions Challenge presented by Justin Boots series, and the PRCA’s championship rodeos in Puyallup, Wash., and Omaha, Neb.

“We believe CBS Sports Network is a great fit for the PRCA, because it takes us to a mainstream sports network audience,” PRCA Commissioner Karl Stressman said. “It’s exciting for one of the fastest-growing sports in the world to partner with the fastest growing sports network in the country. The commitment of CBS Sports Network to ProRodeo will be a win-win for both partners.”

In addition to featuring LIVE coverage of all 10 rounds of the 2014 and 2015 Wrangler NFR, CBS Sports Network will also broadcast the recently-created Wrangler Champions Challenge presented by Justin Boots. “This new tour highlights our marquee contestants against the very best stock who will be featured on a consistent basis. Our fans will have a chance to see their favorite athletes in a Wrangler NFR-style format,” said Stressman.

As part of the multi-year agreement, CBS Sports Network will also televise the Justin Boots Playoffs from Puyallup, Washington and the Justin Boots Championships from Omaha, Nebraska. These championship broadcasts, as well as the Wrangler Champions Challenge presented by Justin Boots will run 90 minutes and each repeat once.
I see it says 90 minutes and replay once for the playoffs and challenges like Puyallup and Omaha. I wonder if that means the NFR will be 90 minutes too. I sure hope not. They have lots of commercials too. So how will we be able to see everything in 90 minutes? Sure hope the NFR is full coverage and not 90 minutes like these others. GAC is airing for 180 minutes showing everything & a bit extra. ESPN used to air for 150 minutes and didn't show everything. If they only show 90 minutes of any rodeo, it won't be everything. I hope the NFR will be an exception to this 90 minute thing. What do you all think?

This has to be due to money and not quality!  GAC had done such a wonderful job of showing the whole rodeo, I just don't see CBS doing this.  If I were a betting person I'd bet we only see a couple of barrel racers.  And I doubt they have the neat show before like GAC does.  BAD move in my opinion.

I sincerly like the job GAC is doing. I also LIKE the opporunity to watch the last nights round, the next day. I can't stay up until 1 a.m. everynight to watch all of it. Disappointing that they are moving it.

If it's live, I don't know how they can cut any of the events short? When it was on ESPN, it wasn't live so they had a chance to condense it. Wonder what channel that is with DISH? I say that but it's not like I've had a chance to watch the entire rodeo since I've got kids and a job but they're all sitting and waiting on my DVR...

They "say" that they are showing it "live" now....and they are NOT....it is "semi" live...on CBS, I predict that you will (just like it was on ESPN) MISS the contestants that run during the commercials, which, of course, are during the timed events.....GAC is on a short "time delay".....

GAC has been doing an awsome job!!! I think they may get paid more for it - but the fan base will suffer.

Agreed. Those companies pay BIG money to have those commercials aired, and the networks will squeeze them in even if it's over the top of the barrel racers.

I will be sad to see it leave GAC. They have done a spectacular job.

Does anybody remember years ago when they filled the barrel racing time with interviews and commercials.  If you saw two barrel racers you were lucky.  Sometimes when they did the interviews with the cowboys you could hear the barrel race going on in the background but didn't get to see it.  Maddening when you had fought off sleep for hours so you could watch the barrel racing.

hlynn - 2013-12-10 9:54 PM Why can't they just webcast it? It can be pay per view, that's fine, but that way I know how wins WHEN it happens, not two hours later. AND NO COMMERCIALS! You wouldn't miss a thing.
By we casting it, they can ensure a stagnant viewership. They want to draw more viewers (and fans) in by being on a more mainstream channel. Which I thinkis smart in thinking of the future of our sport.

CBS Sports Network is not a mainstream channel and they are struggling against all the sports network competition

Viewership on CBSSN for 90 minute rodeo broadcasts aren't going to increase viewership and popularity of rodeo.  This is going to be a complete lose situation for all rodeo fans that want to watch the NFR all to benefit those at the top of the PRCA.  It's too bad.  The GAC deal was great for rodeo exposure to those that will actually be interested in rodeo.

Oh Goodie, back to the stone ages.

Coverage of the NFR was never good until GAC got a hold of it.

Next stop...pay for view.
