Hard to tell if he wasn't going to stop. But either way, the Good Lord had a hand on them both. It was a pretty wicked wreck that could have been so much worse. |

Prayers for JJ. She is very lucky it was not worse.
But yes, it was yesterday in OKC. I dont think an open gate is any kind of soloution. I think its better to endanger one horse and rider than several others or people walking by ect. Not that he was not honoring the gate- I think it was just bad timing/ or a slip. |

I asked on FB if that was a bad alley way and I don't think a lot of people liked that I asked that.... I've never been to that pen before so I didn't know. |

It's not bad
it's a LONG way from the timer to the gate. It's a little dark but other than that it's good to go. |

ETA: Apparently I got a dislike on that last post... remind me not to ask questions about alley ways anymore.

I asked on FB if that was a bad alley way and I don't think a lot of people liked that I asked that.... I've never been to that pen before so I didn't know. It's not very good lighting in that area. But it's better than the old days where you used to be able to run all the way back up into the warm up pen and out the gate onto the cement! Yes I saw that happen a few times. Also remember a crew of people at the top of the alley for the youth/junior kids on the high powered Open horses that were waving blankets, jackets, etc to get them to stop. I was a youth at the time and my horse spooked at it. People used to start their runs from the TOP of the hill. Pedestrians could cross the alley as the horses were running. I had a futurity horse that ran into that gate too years ago. He hit it in round 1 and remembered running out the 2nd round just before he was about to hit it again ducked out from under me and I hit the top bar and every one on the way down. He ran back out to the arena and Talmadge Green caught him. Thankfully I was a teenager and bounced back up pretty well.

| Prayers for quick and complete healing to Jackie and her horse. I just had a nasty wreck at the end of a run myself a couple of months ago. I took a wreck in that same OKC pen on the 3rd barrel at the BBR a couple of years back also. At the speeds we run, and the turns and stops we require, sometimes wrecks happen. Looking back at both of my wrecks I should have slowed things down a tad on both, and probably would have avoided both wrecks, but you know what, we want to win. So we go fast until the end, and sometimes horses stumble. Again, prayers that Jackie is going to be A-OK soon, as will her horse. As for an open or closed gate, w/all the people warming up outside that gate, I think closed is safest. I'm just thankful there were people there to help her pronto as her feet were obviously rubber- banded in, and THAT could have really been scary if that crew wasn't there to help her out. Blessing go out to them also!! Good job guys!! |
