You are a funny girl.  They could have another competition on navigating the roads to get there.  I would like it tho because I have family in the area & I could stay with them & it's only a 5 hour drive.

Las Vegas.  I really cannot see another venue having the number of amenities, services, entertainment, support, etc contained in such a compact and user friendly area.

this is true, also once (and if) you do get there...there isn't much to do... maybe it would brighten up the lives of all those who live there, just saying

My other suggestion would be at Loretta Lynn's family ranch. My husband once was stuck working at the power plant out there.... there is NOWHERE to eat there. It's like the gas station and the ranch's resturaunt. lol

Louisville would be neat. It's central, an we host the FFA convention and national street rods every year. Bad thing is that I am not sure how many people Freedom Hall holds, and I doubt Yum would host a rodeo at this point. Plenty of hotel space, a big night life, and ample convention space.

I personally think it would be kind of cool if they changed venues every year-kind of like the Super Bowl.  I mean, how cool would it be to head back to Cheyenne, or Pendleton, or Houston?  Granted, it would seriously suck if Cheyenne was in the middle of a blizzard during the NFR and a timing change may be in order to do this but still.  Make it so the location is known 3-5 years out so people can prepare and the venues can prepare vendors and what not.

When I first heard of the change I thought it was ludacris to move the venue from Las Vegas.  I still want to see how Florida is going to be able to guarantee pricing like Vegas can.  And I want to see a guarantee that Florida and the PRCA really are going to give that money to the contestants.  BUT, if they truly have done their homework and made a very sound business decision, then move it.

Sounds like the cowboys/cowgirls are willing to take that risk since they all banded together to get the vote vetoed.

I have always thought Vegas was an odd location. When you have the best of the best I believe a better arena is needed. The Thomas and Mack is so small it is just a weird place to hold a rodeo. yes you have the party town atmosphere but I believe a place like Dallas or another large city with a really good arena is more suitable. The barrel racing results would be very different in a full size arena!

I think vegas is odd but I find Orlando just as odd. I know it is horse country down there in that area, but our cowboy hats and wrnaglers are going to look odd against jodphurs and  english helmets.

Changing venue's all the time is one of the main things that killed the NARC.

If you are going for central location, then that would be Denver. Because who doesn't like battling blizzards in  December and freezing your hinney off.... oh wait... that's what Stock Show is for.

Then central would be OK City... but wait... that's the BFA.....

Topeka? Nope... not near big enough....

Looks like a central location is out. Next option?

I just got back from Vegas today from watching the rodeo. I love it in Vegas because there is so much to do, like the shows concerts, cowboy Christmas, the after party at the Mirage, etc. I love walking into a casino and it is flooded with cowboy hats and this is our type of people, however we went down there two years ago (seed corn company gives us a free trip every other year) and I can say I am very disappointed in how many more bums, people trying to grab you to sell you stuff, etc, there is down there. And how much more dirty things have got. We went with a group of about 500 and there were a lot that went down to Fremont street and said it was not good this time, scary. Vegas does need to work on getting people off the street and cleaning it up. I was so sick of the flipping cards and trying to stuff them in your hands, people following you always trying to sell you stuff, etc. I do love going to Vegas during the rodeo and I know I won't go back if the rodeo isn't there and know our seed corn company won't either.

I think Vegas needs a larger rodeo arena..then it would be fine. I don't like the idea of Florida. I'm a little tired of going to vegas.. but its affordable especially if you have a players card and book early you get a couple nights free hotel. I'm guessing hotels will cost more in Orlando.

What about moving it around like the High School Finals or the Super Bowl?  Vegas in 2014, Rapid City 2015, Billings 2016, Arlington, Pendleton, Green Bay, etc. just suggesting locations but you get the point.

Not really.  Florida's NBHA State Show is has been between 750 and 1000 in the Open for about the last 10 years.  Of course NBHA is the largest organization east of the Mississippi and about all we have. Florida is the second largest cow calf state and lots of very rural "cow country" all over the state, so Boots and Cowboy hats are pretty common just about everywhere.

I'm not sure where I would like to see it.  Orlando is pretty out of the way for the rest of the Country, but there are about a million things to do.  Not nearly as compact as Vegas but rooms are priced all over the place.  Lots of very nice reasonabley priced rooms, actually thousands.  Besides the obvious Disney, there is Universal, Sea World, International Drive, major show's tens of thousands of resturaunts, but not the same "party" atmosphere.

Building the new arena is questionable to me though.  Osceola County has a large state fairgrounds with a beautiful Arena (not big enough as far a seating) that's less than 10 years old.  Hard to imagine them building another...or will they tear that one down?  Or well. . . kind of hard to speculate.

As long as the Cowboys and Cowgirls are happy with the decission, I'll support them where ever they go.

Checked the price of plane tickets today.  The reservations would only go to the middle of November, but the cost was twice as much as mine cost to Vegas.

Moving the DNCFR to OKC was a bust this year.

Do you think part of the reason the NFR is such a hot ticket is because of the limited seats?  If there would be twice as many seats, would the demand/value go down?

Although Vegas is a good place for the fans, it is definitely not the best venue for the contestants. The arena is very small and really not the best for any event with the exception of the bull riding since most of the bulls come out of the chute, don't go very far and just start spinning (so they don't need much room.) It is not a good sized arena for the steer wrestlers, calf ropers, team ropers or barrel racers. And not very good for the bronc riders.
Also, the warm up facilities are substandard - the contestants have to warm up in a circus tent with some dirt thrown on top of the paved parking lot. Not the best situation.

When Vegas first got the NFR contract, they promised lots of things such as larger payouts to the contestants as the years went on (which happened to a degree in the beginning, but I believe the payout has only increased by about $4000 since 2004), and they even "semi-promised" building a new equestrian facility with a larger arena, better warm up and barns, etc. and that has never happened.

I don't blame the Cowboys/Cowgirls and PRCA for entertaining other options that could possibly be more lucrative for the contestants. I understand the fans are very important, but I think a priority should be making sure the contestants are taken care of. I believe that the wonderful fans of Pro Rodeo and the NFR will come and support our great sport no matter where the NFR is held.
And don't forget........Las Vegas does have the option of "upping the ante" in their location and offering a bid that can match or beat the other locations. They do have a choice in this matter and if they choose not to do so that is their decision. JMHO.......

It was a joke.  This time of year a lot of northern hunter jumpers head to Florida for the winter circuits.

At the SouthPoint in Vegas.

Out of pure curiosity, why isn't it held at Southpoint? Is is that there's more spectator seating at the T&M?

Aren't the USTRC world finals held at Southpoint ? and the I know there is some Roughstock deal that goes on there too, and I would also guess seating.

USTRC world finals are in OKC.... World Series of Team Roping is held at southpoint during the NFR and there is a Bronc Sale and Show held the day before WSTR begins at southpoint as well. Southpoint only holds like 5-6000 people where as T&M holds 18k.
