Β Isn't Ms. June Holeman still riding? I thought I saw some results for her at a rodeo this year. That lady can get it! I could name a bunch I know from here.....Roxie......Diane.....but, they will probably hurt me for saying......
Β Yeah, and I think she qualified fot the American! |

| I am 55 and have had 2 back surgery and have ra. For the last 4 or 5 years i cared for my husband and he has since passed away, now my gelding has a fusing hock and, it taken me all year to get a proper diagnosis and a pocket full of money from lameness vets. I have to get him his shockwave so we will be ready in the spring. But i have a hot, little weanie and will be breeding my lovely mare one more time and they will be my geldings replacement. I also sold a nice mare in 2004 to a then 64 year old lady that lady won about 3 or 4 saddles on that horse within 18 months and up until this fall still riding would be now except she needs to get her shoulder fixed. So us old kids can still ride, look at martha josey. i am in the ladies club of virginia and i at 55 is one of the younger ones and aint giving up for a while just bought a 14lq last year.

Location: Over by those oil wells, TX | I'm in the same boat. 60 in 3 weeks. I have given up twice but this last time seriously thought it would stick. Problem is I still have to work and although I wish i could play grandma everyday, I don't have that luxury and I haven't met anyone who wants to fly out of town a couple times a month so.. I'm getting way too chubby and weak.., even moreso than before... and allllllll the pretty 3year olds are for sale from the track.....I'm such a sucker for a pretty race colt. Lol. Here I go again! We all transition slowly off these horses, or not at all! Lol. |

| Ii am 57 and am sitting here reading the posts and am amazed at how many of you have mimicked my feelings and worries. Riding has also become hard on my body. I have three horses that I raised from weanlings. One is six, one five and a four year old. Two are the same on their dams side who is sun frost bred. Don't know how others feel, but they are tough and take time getting broke. They arent very forgiving when i have let them set a few days. I also have felt like I am running out of time to get everyone finished. Have almost made up my mind to sell one, so I can keep up. It's been good for me to hear all your positive thoughts to keep me going and not get frustrated with the lack of energy to get out there.. Thx everyone.. |

| I'm over 50 and ride anywhere from 4 to 6 days a week. I've gotten lazy and don't like to condition but one horse now. Several of my friends are over 50 and we are all very competitive barrel racers. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | IMO..It's not an age thing..it's a physical wellness thing.
I only made one run this year and I'm still trying to decide if I want to do this anymore..It's amazing what placing or winning can do for your desire to continue running..LOL
There are many in the over 50 incentive classes by me that are always in the 1-D. |

Location: where the wind blows | Well in our district 2 of the ladies that are continuously in the top 5 of the 1d are both over 55. One may even be over 60. You have to put one heck of a run together if your going to beat them. |

| I'll be 54 in two weeks. It is harder on my body than it used to be when I ride 3 (think I'll give one up) but I think riding at least one or two keeps us young otherwise we'll get old faster than we have to. |

Location: Windoming | A few years ago at a finals barrel race, there was an 85 year old gal running and she was very competitive. My husband groaned and said, you mean I have to put up with this for 30 more years! |

Exactly! Use it or lose it. Just like an old horse, they get older standing around. Nothing that Advil and a hot bath can't fix, |

 I Am Always Right

Location: stray dump capital of the world | I am 51 and just coming back from a buck off that broke my a$$-literally. I am having the hardest time keeping myself sound. When I try to ride, my lower back swells up or I get horribly sore to the point I can't walk. I started injections in my back and go for round 2 in January. I have been off due to this injury since April. I am just now attempting loping, but I have lost my balance, my confidence and my left leg still goes numb. My hope is to begin hauling in January, but I'm not sure that is realistic. I'm afraid the longer I am off, the harder it will be to get back going. I have considered selling, but my husband says no way. He says he can't enjoy life if I have no horses. Lol...Guess I'll keep chugging along probably at a much slower rate than I was a year ago. Do they let seniors in lead line? |
