How does that not show that men are up there with the best in the world in NBHA? Just look at how many men have won championships in each division since NBHA started!! Especially in the Senior class. That's a lot of guys. And quite a few have won championships.
I put on a benefit barrel race in my state. I had more males competing than females. Most males took home prizes & checks.
We had a 3 day show in November with over 300 entries. In the 2D shootout, 8 of the 13 in the 1D were male. In the 2D that night, 4 of the top 5 were male. In the Open, 10 out of the top 18 riders were male. The fastest time of the weekend was made by a male. On Sunday, 10 of the 18 in the 1D were male.
Want the link to the results so you can see for yourself? Just ask WrapSnap. He was there. I'm sure he'll tell you the same thing.
HERE in NC, in NBHA world, men are a DOMINANT force in EVERY division.

Past four champions: one female, three males. (With a whole lot of males rounding out the top 5 or so in the 1D....)
"Few" usually means three or so, a small number.

I don't know what album you're talking about. There wasn't an owner or whatever you mean by that. I produced the show, I rented the arena, I announced, we had a crew to set barrels, & we had a caterer to run the concessions. There's a small album of candids on Facebook. That's it.
And we had 61 entries, which wasn't too bad considering the date. It was smaller than a normal show, but everyone there was an NBHA member. It was a smaller 02/04 show really.

Location: MD | I must say, this is all highly entertaining to me. I don't know that I would ever say that either gender dominates anywhere. I will say this, on the East Coast, there are a ton of men who compete whom you never want to count out. There are definitely areas around me where there are a number of guys who you expect to see at the top of the results sheets. There are certainly enough men running at the top of the biggest NBHA shows to make a person say that the men have been known to set the bar, at times. If you look up Equi Stat reports as far as earnings, you will see that men are amongst the highest money earners for Futurity and Aged events. Just looking at the links that NJJ provided, in the first 15 years of NBHA World Shows, six Open 1D World titles were won by men. The NBHA Senior World Championships have indeed, been predominantly awarded to male riders.
Personally, I could care either way. I have been to different areas all over the country and competed. There have been times when I am the only guy running at a barrel race. There have also been times where people have commented about the fact that I was running. Even here on the East Coast, just this past weekend, I ran at a jackpot that was part of a Bulls and Barrels. It was that first time that they had opened it up to be an open jackpot, rather than a traditional "females only" thing. In the video of my run, you here someone say "Why the Heck is a GUY running in this?!". The way I see it is this, we all show up, we all pay our EF's and at the end of the day that's all I care about.

Location: Bastrop, Texas | What is the objective of this thread? I often go to jackpots where I am one of 2-3 men running. I'm used to it. I'd love to see more men and I've had my ass kicked by 8 yr old boys and girls, so the way I see it, what difference does it make? If someone thinks I'm a sissy because I like to barrel race, they are the ones with the problem, not me. All winter last year I ran at the NDSU barrel series and I was the only man......64 women/girls....and one fat balding old man. There were a lot of men watching, and I bet you a lot of them wished they could have done what I was doing.
Bob Manor is about 78 yrs old, and he is always at the top wherever he enters. You would be hard pressed to find a better rider than Bob. Do you want proof? Look him up on YouTube and watch him run a 19 second pole pattern on a stud, or watch him kid everyone's ass in barrels. His runs are so consistent he's boring. The man is like a robot.

Ugh. You are taking my words out of context. (Which isn't the first time that you've sought me out to prove me wrong).
In NBHA land, men are a BIG force. Period. We have plenty of guys around here, and most are pretty dang good hands.
We also have plenty of ladies that are good. We have a pair of sisters that are some of the best I've ever seen, that easily rival some of the top hands in the country in my book.
All I'm saying is, that on the east coast, there are plenty of guys at the top of the ranks. And there's a whole lot more up there come futurity time.

Really? Before you stick your foot any further in your mouth perhaps you had better go back and read the statistcs from the NBHA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.....because you are WRONG ! ! ! ! ! I will be waiting (breathlessly) for your apology.........LOL
I saw the album online for that small benefit show that the owner put on with your help and your hubbys.. it was really nice to do I am sure a blessing and thoughtful .. but it isnt the same.. as a nbha show or other bigger events so i wouldnt think it would count in the grand scheme of things but i may be wrong...
Wow the men really do kick the womens butt in your part of the country thats cool that the men are better at barrel racer then the girls.  Here in Texas we got really really tough women.
To be fair, the men who kick butt in this area and the horses that they do it on, have been known to go just about anywhere in the U.S. and Canada and hold their own there too.

Who have been the past few NBHA world champions? Are they male or female? Talmadge, Brett, Kebo, Pete, Lance, Adam, Add, Jamie, Ducky, the Chouest boy, Steve, Heath, etc. Read & COMPREHEND before you respond. Just saying.

We just have a lot of guys who compete. And quite a few showed up to that barrel show. In that area, there are quite a few men who barrel race, and quite a few that are very successful at it.
We have a lot of tough ladies, don't get me wrong. Some of the best around here are female trainers & riders. But you can never count out the guys.

| Everybody gravitates to our area, partly because of Josey's. (NE TX) Several times there have been men who have come from IL and are wearing jackets that say MEN'S BARREL RACING ASSN. I would say that there are probably more than a handful of them. They are pretty tough.
There are quite a few guys that live around here that win pretty consistently. I have friends that come here from Canada that are guys and they win pretty consistently too. So here you have guys that come from many areas that end up in E TX and win consistently. By the way, some are husbands. Some are boyfriends and a few are dads.
There are also the Sullivan kid and the Wheeler kid that are bad to the bone.
If you ride where the men do not really know anything you need to get out of your backyard. Go somewhere, open your eyes and see who is taking home the cash.

Location: Virginia | Gotta come to HLynn's defense here because men are a big force in NBHA and in the futurity world. Someone posted the NBHA World Champions and said that it proved that men are not a force, but of 21 1D Champions, 11 were women and 10 were men... pretty even for the top rider, especially considering how dominant Hotshot was so the Steinhoff girls account for several of the championships. From Barrel Horse News 9/13 issue on 10 year statistics: 6 of the top 8 Leading Riders over the past 10 years are men with Troy Crumrine being the #1 money earner. These statistics include WPRA and NFR earnings.

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | Why is it so hard for some to grasp that there are regional and cultural differences? There are even training differences based on which gender is the majority in an area and what kind of pens and dirt you run on.
Based on my husband's limited experience at barrel races, he probably thinks that most men running barrels are gay. It doesn't make it true. It doesn't make him a bad person. It just makes him a person who hasn't had a lot of experience outside a certain type local events. In other words, he's ignorant. No shame in that--he's not horsey and doesn't care.
