If so...what was the difference?
The lockhart is a flex tree, JBN is a treeless but has swells.
I had a circle Y flex tree I loved (not that model). Never had any major issues with it, it rode great, but was too wide for my horse.
I also had a JBN that I loved, but it was crooked. They are replacing it with a new one (through the warranty with Circle Y). It always felt "off" on the horse, like the saddle was sitting off center. We measured it, and it was longer on one side. (maybe NTO got one like me?)
I have ridden in other circle y's and never had that issue. I think I just got a bad saddle. Can't wait to get my new one. I loved how the JBN felt otherwise. VERY comfy.
If you ride in a SQHB, you need the "regular" tree. The wide tree is a FQHB.
Okay...makes sense now.
Yes...the JBN I had was crooked.
I had tried a Circle Y Marlene years ago and I wasn't thrilled over it but it felt 1000 times better then that JBN.

| I went out on a limb and bought a JBN …. I heard the good and the bad …. its ok and that's it.
Not thrilled with the quality.
Love the weight (or lack thereof) compared to other saddles.
Riding it makes my back hurt …. not sure if that's a function of it being new and needing break in.
Going to give it a minute or two. May have to break the news to my non-horsey hubby that its not right.
The big stirrups are ugly and don't look right on the saddle.
My horse likes it …. so I'm trying to change things to see if it helps. |

Location: the high desert | well the saddle has arrived...and so far im a tiny bit dissapointed. One fender (the left one) seems to be thinner than the other. Its alot more "boke in" feeling than the other, which is fine, but at the same time it feels thinner to me. This saddle only has 20 rides put on it so i cant imagine that would be caused by the riding in such a short amount of time. I dont know, im just not thrilled with it i guess. Its a nice looking saddle, just doesnt seem to be as nicely made as others. Do flex trees have a weight limit? I know the tree-less saddles do since it pretty much like riding bareback but what about the flex trees.

Location: where ever my L/Q trl is parked | mouse - 2013-12-28 8:04 PM No offense NTO, but I have a JBN and first got a Tammy Fisher saddle...........absolutely hated it and I like the JBN.......wonder if you got a lemon, so to speak. Mine has been great and held up great as well.
i agree- I have the JNB bought it 2 years ago and have never had a problem with it, I love it and my horse really likes it....still looks brand new and never had to break it in. I can't understand why spend more money for the same saddle just to have some name endorsement, but to each his/her own. |

I have had horses I couldn't ride in the bob Marshall saddle because they KILLED my SI joint (lower back) in it. Something about how they moved. |

if you have ridden the saddle before and never had the sore back why would you think it's the saddle causing it now? I would think it could be something else..... maybe the way you were sitting or you didn't stretch enough before your run. Was your horse sore too? I've found if I'm sore from riding it's because of me, not doing enough warm ups or haven't ridden in a long time. |

I think the Lockharts are very light weight. I have a Lockhart also. I like riding in mine and it really fits a horse but when I got it I was a bit disappointed at the quality of leather. I think that is Circle Y's fault. I know I've owned Circle Y's before and their leather wasnt like this. |

if you have ridden the saddle before and never had the sore back why would you think it's the saddle causing it now?  I would think it could be something else..... maybe the way you were sitting or you didn't stretch enough before your run. Was your horse sore too?  I've found if I'm sore from riding it's because of me, not doing enough warm ups or haven't ridden in a long time. I've ridden a Tammy before. My horse loved it … held me in the turns, but I couldn't get up out of my seat. Sold it when it became too big. (yay diet).
I'd never ridden in a JBN before this one. I've had the JBN since November my back hurts each time I ride. I run myself and so I stretch regularly … That's what makes me think its the saddle. |

I've seen other people say this too, and I've really been considering a Lockhart saddle.
What exactly do you mean by it?
Do the stirrups swing freely much like an English saddle stirrup would?  |

Sounds like you would like the Jackie Jatzula as you can get up and out of it. This is what I ended up with. The quality sucks but I haven't seen a quality Circle Y since the 90's. It fits my horse and is comfortable except the fenders are too forward for me but they will have to do and hopefully I will be able to get back in a treed saddle when I get him back in shape. |

No they don't swing like an English saddle.
It is hard to describe. When I sit for a turn, I can move my feet up near the cinch, when I get up to leave the barrel I can move my stirrups to the back cinch.
