The detectors themselves should he replaced every so many years. I didn't know this until I was researching the subject last fall. Very very scary. My trailer has two but I I also put a seperate battery operated one in my LQ.

I did not know her but I found out through a friend who was on her college team. Very sad for her family and her extended family of friends. Sounds as if she wasn't only a great athlete but also had a great personality.

All of you LQ owners ... please believe me when I tell you these trailers have no RV certifications they have to abide by ... so some local yocal can wire and run pipes that are not qualified to protect you from killing yourself ....

Go to an RV dealer and look at the travel trailers there ... you will find a sticker usually by the door that shows the overall plan or the trailer design has been approved by some state RV inspectors or RV building standards group .. ....

I also bet you that no fire marshal or other person looked at how the furnaces were vented that allowed carbon monoxide (CO) to seep back into trailer or seep inside the trailer ...... it is odorless and puts you to sleep and then kills you .... and a cracked or open window can be the cause by sucking everything back down from the furnace vents thru the floor vents ...

the boy friend was groggy enough to escape the trailer and went to the hospital to get oxygen treatment to replenish his system .... he could still end up with a quirky brain or other body parts ..

I think most of you are hooked up to land power or generators when you are at events .... I would think seriously of the air conditioner heat strips with some small ceramic 1500 watt $25 heaters as boosters in really cold weather and forget the propane ..... it does take some learning time to get familiar with the do this and don't do this routine when messing with a propane furnace ... it is the same way with how you direct the exhaust from your generator so it won't kill you ...

BE SAFE AND VERY CAREFUL ...

Not entirely true. Depends on the conversion company. The better companies, like Outlaw Conversions, are RVIA certified. This is the biggest RV certifier.

All trailers that are slept in should have a carbon monoxide detector that is replaced every few years.

i don't know the people personally in this case, but a lady I go to church with is this boy's aunt. She posted a picture of the two together. It's a heartbreaking situation.

My LQ are certified, there is a plate beside the door.  My old trailer was as well.  Our first one, which was a factory installed LQ from Tracer was not.

quickdraw - 2014-01-28 5:23 PM The ONLY thing that will insure you safety is a functioning carbon monoxide detector. They are relatively cheap and can be bought at WalMart, Home Depot, etc..... Most have a test button on them, test it before you lay down to go to sleep. Change your batteries frequently. If yours is hard wired into your LQ, it won't work if your trailer batteries are down, therefore I suggest having a battery operated one too. I had an all electric trailer several years ago and started feeling it coming on so I opened the door and got out. Nausea and major headache are symptoms. The fumes were coming from a truck that was idleing right by my trailer. The fumes had to be coming up the shower drain. A cracked window won't necessarily let enough fresh air in fast enough so please don't rely on that. The mother and daughter that died at Joseys one year were very close to me so this is a subject dear to my heart. I was fortunate to be awake when the fumes took over my own trailer and I know a few others that have barely escaped the same disaster. My heart aches for the young lady that passed away and I am so thankful the young man is doing better. Thank you Jesus!

This is very good advise. Also, a lot of people don't know that if your hard wired CO2 detector starts to beep it's because your battery is low. It's a warning that the CO2 detector won't work once your battery is dead.

God bless Rachel's family and friends and keep Praying for Wayce.

you can have your co detector wired into the furnace. it will shut down the furnice if co detected unsafe also if the batteries are low your furnice will shut down or not even start up.

We had ours go off last year while my son was napping with the door open (screen door was closed). The trailer parked next to us had their generator running and sitting underneath their gooseneck with the exhaust pipe facing our trailer. Since there was no wind blowing, there was enough gas going across and right through our door. Very scary!

Trail Boss Conversions are RVIA certified too but I'm still convinced we need to be more cautious. At a big race in Jackson, MS this past year a motorhome with 2 slideouts exploded in the parking lot and the fire marshall said they believe it was caused by a gas leak. Their "alarms" were not going off either and thankfully nobody was in the motorhome at the moment it exploded.
