Thank you for posting this. After many years of not working out I've faithfully worked out for two weeks now. After my first week the scale actually increased by 7 lbs which made me question my diet/my routine/everything really.
I weighed this morning, my one time per week that I'm allowed, and the scale only dropped 1.5 lbs. I'm taking it, although I wish it were more because I really busted my behind in the gym. I guess I was wanting bigger results. I think I need to be more patient!LOL
I'm excited to work my butt off this week again and see what the scale says next week:)
I should add I'm also hypothyroid so I sometimes feel like my body is working against me and its a little disheartening. I've researched some foods to eat to help jumpstart the thyroid again so I'm going to give it a whirl:)
Any comments or tips would be very much appreciated and thanks again for posting this.
I am also hypothyroid! What are some foods you have found that work for you? Thanks! |

I am just starting with the foods so I'll let ya know if I see a difference.
I do know from my research that exercise is VERY good for your thyroid and we should be cutting out gluten, caffeine, and soy based foods and EATING FULL FAT!!! (in moderation of course). This is going to be hard for me because I have the mind set eating fat makes you fatter!LOL Healthy fats are suppose to help our thyroids function better:)
Google it..you'll find all sorts of things.

Location: Alberta | Snacks & Prepping Meals (my take on it all) The first step is what do you enjoy eating? Put into your house what you know you will eat, doesn't mean having the whole produce section in your fridge! Snacks I like!!!!!! ORGANIC PEANUT BUTTER (LOVE IT) I put it on rice cakes, apples, bananas, in smoothies, pretty much anywhere I can get away with having it....even just off the spoon. HARD BOILED EGGS (but I always have to remind myself to BOIL SOME) I find them to be a great snack, but to me protein consumption is always a MUST with my workouts APPLE & CHEESE- now anyone on a Paleo this wont work (the cheese), but ever since I was a kid this combo has been yummy to me. NUTS- Always are a great source of fats & protiens, BUT very high in caloric value, so you need to moderate the portion on these. I enjoy cashews & almonds the most. SNAP PEAS - great for just a quick grab snack, as you stare into the fridge thinking "im hungry" CARROTS - my go to snack lately SMOOTHIES- Two aspects people need to watch when using smoothies as a meal or even snack (mine are snacks or partial of a meal) is the SUGAR content!!!!! Greek yogurts and even the fruit, which fruit is good but dont over do it, throw veggies in there!!! My go to smoothie is 1 banana, handful of spinach, scoop of vanilla protein powder and 1 cup of almond milk. Yogurt & Oats- Paleo wont work with the oats part, but yogurt alone is a good source of protein & fat BUT as I mentioned WATCH YOUR SUGAR!!!!! Plain yogurt ( I know boring) but add fruit and your set for better taste! I do 1/2 cup gluten free oats, 1/2 cup yogurt and 1/2 cup chocolate protein powder
I just cooked my lunch took me 10 mintues, and I am having chicken, wild rice & green beans.......I buy frozen veggies so easy to just grab and throw in fry pan with some coconut oil, I always try to have chicken cooked and ready in the fridge so it's just matter of warming up & my rice I buy the 1 cup versions that 1 minute in microwave and done.
Oh and also I do NOT eat salads for every meal, which MOST people think you need to do to lose weight....I enjoy real food at each meal just watch my portions and always make sure I have my carbs, fats & proteins in each meal! |

Location: home for the winter...what a dumb idea | What a timely post. I just did my first day of the 30 day shred. For me I have found that cutting out carbs is the thing to help me lose weigh and gain muscle... so no more bread, noodles or cookies... I just want to get back into shape for riding |

That looks like a very effective workout....can you define jump squats and pop squats though? |

Location: Is it Summer Yet? | Jump Squats - get in the squated down position, feet wide, slightly wider than shoulders. Jump up and land in that squated down position again, keep your stance wide. Pop Squats - start with legs together, standing up, jump to squated down position, feet slightly wider than shoulder, then jump up to feet together starting position. that's one.
Let me know if I need to explain better. |

I'm going to make the banana bread next week. I need to get coconut flour. ~~Paleo Pumpkin Bread IMG_2884 Originally published in Elena’s Pantry I doubled the ingredients as Elena’s quantities were for a petite loaf tin. I didn’t have any stevia so I used the equivalent of Raw Coconut Crystals. I also switched allspice for nutmeg. OH… and I added raisins! The outcome = SUPER delicious! My favorite paleo baked item so far, in my opinion Smile Ingredients: 2 cup blanched almond flour 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 tablespoon cinnamon 2 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon cloves 1 cup pumpkin 4 tablespoons honey ¼ teaspoon Raw Coconut Crystals 6 eggs 1 cup organic raisins Directions: 1.In a food processor combine almond flour, salt, baking soda and spices 2.Add pumpkin, honey, raw coconut crystals and eggs and pulse for 2 minutes 3.Add raisins 4.Scoop batter into a loaf pan 5.Bake at 350° for 55 minutes 6.Cool for 1 hour 7.Serve
I use walnuts or pecans instead of raisins. I really like the chocolate chip cookies.

Location: CA | Totally agree! It's a life style change and not an easy one to make. I just keep reminding myself it's not just about the weight but my actual health. I started out 178 ish after having my son. I did the dynamite 180 & detoxed and finally gave up most processed foods and soda! I feel so much better. When I do slip up, I can definately tell. I weighed in last month at 130lbs (4 months). I have ten more to go to be where I want to be. I know it's going to be the hardest to lose. Hopefully I can make time to work out, but my son keeps me so busy. |

I buy my coconut oil at Costco. You can also get it at a Health Food Store.
As far as replacing coconut...I'm not for sure. I use Almond Flour and haven't tried Coconut Flour. |

I get mine at Walmart. My husband likes the Louann brand, some of the other brands have a taste to them he does not like. |

| I just started week 6 of a 10 week jump start workout program. Kickboxing 3x's a week and resistance band training 3x's a week. I LOVE it. At first getting up at 4:30 sucked, but now I wake up then on the weekends when I don't have to. The program also includes healthy eating- not a diet, but changing the way you eat and looking at food as fuel. We are to eat 6 meals a day, meal-snack-meal-snack-meal-snack. We are to try to aim for protein the size of our palm and carbs the size of our fist at each meal, and make sure each snack also has a carb and a protein.
I needed this post because I kind of fell off the food bandwagon last week with all you can eat wing night and Valentine's day dinner - but worth it! Back on the bandwagon now!
A couple things to add:
PEANUT BUTTER - SUPER easy to make. I have little Kitchenaid Food Chopper (not processor, this one is like $50 at Kohls) and I throw my peanuts in there and run them until they are fine, then add a little peanut oil (we use roasted peanuts, so if you're using raw the natural oil content is higher and you may be able to skip this step) and honey and continue pureeing until the consistency is where I want it. I make a batch and portion it out into small containers so I just grab a container and an apple in the morning and I have my snack for the day.
I pre-chop all veggies like broccoli and cauliflower the day we go grocery shopping, otherwise it'll sit in the fridge and go bad because I'm "so busy".
I also pre portion more expensive proteins and snacks like shrimp and almonds to make sure I'm not over eating. The price tag is a little shocking at first, but when you look at the correct portion size and work it out, they're pretty affordable.
Overnight oats are my favorite breakfast. Oats, greek yogurt, almond milk, raisins, nuts, etc all mixed up overnight in the fridge. It's so delicious and creamy the next morning and it's ready to go.
Grains like couscous, quinoa, and barley are great.
Some blogs that I love for new ideas:
http://www.chocolatecoveredkatie.com - she speaks to my sweet tooth. The black bean brownies and zucchini brownies are the real deal man, the real deal.
http://www.trebleinthekitchen.com - she was a year behind me in school, super yummy clean recipes. The salmon stuffed peppers are awesome and I think I'm going to try the kale pesto this weekend with homemade whole wheat pasta (also very easy).
I love helping people find healthy food to eat that is GOOD. My boyfriend likes to eat well, but isn't on the super clean bandwagon by any means - and he eats everything I cook, so I must be doing something right. |

Location: Hogwarts | Another thing to remember is muscle weighs more than fat. Avoid the scale, judge how you are doing by how you look and how you feel, not by the numbers. I work out 5-6 times a week, sometimes twice a day, for a college sport. I know i'm in shape but I'm 5'8" and weigh 180 lbs. |
