Anytime the truck pulling the trailer is less, pounds, than what it is towing your in trouble. The tow truck needs to be able to control the trailer.
Not much difference in weight between a 3/4 and 1 ton. The difference is springs, brakes, and possibly carrying capacity of tires (Dually vs SRW). The pin weight on my trailer needs a Dually to carry it safely because it maxes out tires and axle weight on a SRW. Plus the wider base adds stability. |

Location: Armuchee, GA, NW section of Ga | I had a new F250 and felt I couldn't pull my trailer safely, so I upgraded to a new F450 with duel wheels. My new truck can pull my trailer, which is a small 3 horse slant with a small LQ. You can't even feel it back there. I do agree, the ability to stop safely is the key, not what you can pull.

Location: South Dakota | achildres - 2014-02-20 9:03 AM We have an '08 F250 that pulls a 4 horse gooseneck Lakota, the extra wide one, with tack, and 9ish foot short wall. The tow haul mode doesn't even work and it has no issues. Granted it does have an H&S Black Maxx Tuner on it so it does make about 200 more horsepower than the stock trucks do. You aren't going to see much "pulling difference" between an F250 and an F350. The only reason you would need a dually would be if you have a super long trailer. It's all about the amount of weight that is being pulled infront of the trailers axles. If your hitch is behind your trucks axle, you're going to have a bigger problem than if it is ontop of/infront of the axle. (Sorry, i'm a nerdy engineering student at A&M )
What would you consider a super long trailer? I've got a 3/4 ton Chevy that I love but was thinking about upgrading from a 26 foot 4 horse No LQ to a 31 foot 4 horse with LQ. I wasn't sure if that was too much for my pickup. I would probably get airbags for my pickup. |

| I would look at the total gvw on the sticker in the door, then look at the empty weight of the trailer, then add 10,000 lbs. Especially if you have living quarters, and a tack room, as you do put a lot of stuff in the trailer, horses, feed, human necessities, tack, it all adds up |

Location: MO | I have an 01 Chevy 2500HD w/ 6.0 gas engine...pulled a 3 horse Hart with weekender (about 6-8 foot short wall), loaded with no problems, pulled better than my 3H bumper pull with large dressing room.
I want a gooseneck too but don't want to go into debt to own one right now. |

Location: Arkansas | I have no problem pulling my Platinum 4 horse 6 ft shortwall living quarters with my 2500. I'm not sure how much bigger I would go, but if you moved this size to a 3 horse I would say you would be fine with an 8ft. Maybe a 10ft depending on the trailer weight. |

| My opinion, I think it would be just fine, that's only a 5 foot difference. The airbags would definitely be a great thing though. |

| You'll be fine for sure with a 3H....4H most likely as well. I pull a 4H with wkender with a 3/4 ton and it does fine |
