I went last year and was really disappointed in how they treated some of us open riders....

If your flyer says 9am start then start at 9am.  For the cost of the entry fees and what I had to pay for fuel/food etc it wasn't worth it.  There were a 2 other incidents that ticked me off.    I won't be attending again.

I don't have a dog n this at all but they've only out on 2 ever so if they didn't start directly on time is
That really so bad to not attend one of the best races?? Not to
Mention what that race is doing for the barrel racing industry as a whole. It's my opinion your the one missing out on a race that's going to get better every year.

Very well said, I agree. And the Schiller's have done tremendous things for our industry, D&D is a fabulous event, the ground is great, the atmosphere the staff (etc) its is a wonderful event, and I only expect it to get bigger and better every year !!!

Safe travels and good luck to everyone competing, and thank you for the Schiller's for putting this event on again.

Whenever you have something this big and this successful you are still going to have an occasional negative experience.  This is the only time I have ever read anything negative about the D&D.  I don't think there are many disgruntled former competitors.  There's no avoiding it.

I sure wish I was going but both of my horses are still under the weather. I hate it. May drive down on sat to see shopping and watch a little.

Does anyone know if the arcades and movies are open to all kids or just the contestants'children?

And is there barrel racing all day or any ideas how long they will be running on Saturday? The events page says futurity at 9 but I was hoping to catch some of.the 5d too.

I went last year and was paid up in the futurity. After my exhibition I realized my colt was still hurting so ended up drawing out! I have to say the staff was extremely helpful and nice even tho I'm not a big name! Yes they were extremely busy. Thanks to the Schillers for putting on a great event! And I'm running Saturday so I can see if the latest attempt by my many vets has worked!

its free toe everyone - just another perk of a schiller ranch production

as for the hater --- God Bless them. They obviously have NO IDEA what it takes to put on a production of this size and magnitude. Leave it to a narrow minded person to pick it apart.

The BFA was an hour and a half getting started one day this past year. Things happen.

this barrel race is off the charts by far the best production out there

Ugg Lauren, we were terrible. Thought we were really running but just high loping. He was so wired in the back and on the muscle I thought he was going to really take off.  Had fun, race ran fast and smooth, lots of vendors, spent a ton of $$ shopping .  Did better on my other 2 horses.  Still a lot to learn but enjoying the ride :).

It's on my bucket list!!!!

Me too. I wish Indiana was not so far from Texas. I've been watching the webcast today since I was snowed in. Thanks for putting that out there for free, 3-2-1 and Schiller Ranch!

ETA: Slot race starting soon! Woohoo! http://diamondsanddirt.com/Futurity_Slot_Race_Draw.pdf

I wish I could attend. The Schillers really seem like a class act. There's always going to be some kinks the first few times such a big event is being put on. I think its awesome they are going to the time, effort, and investment to do this. If it was about making money there are a lot better ways to do it.

I did not go last year but it is my understanding they made some changes this year.  It is unbelievable the amount of staff and coordination this event requires.  From checking in every single horse and coggins, the alleyway help, the person monitoring the forward momentum in the alley, getting stalls assigned, to getting vendors checked in. They had staff for everything you can think of.   Add to that organizing and manning all the extra events, cook offs, movies for kids, special entertainment, it is quite an undertaking and those are just the tip of the iceberg.   It is a fabulous event that draws runners from all over the country.  Kuddos to the Schillings, I will be back next year.
