I thought (from website, again) that they put you into two groups (16 each group) and you spend one whole day with Charmayne or Heahter and the next day you go to whoever you weren't with that first day. That to me should equal out to 2 hours per person per day. Am I wrong?
I certainly don't feel good about just 15 minutes! |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | Yes your split in two groups but 16 people at 2 hours is 32 hours. I'm not trying to steer you from going. I learned a lot but for the money it cost me and the time I spent I'm not sure I would go again. I think she's amazing woman who has accomplished a lot. I got 20 minutes and my daughter has it on video tape. |

Yes, that would be 30 minutes with Charmayne (16 people spread across 8hrs). I'm sure you learn more than just during your time with CJ, but dang that is a lot of $$ for 30 minutes!!
On the other hand, I did one with Bo Hill, $125/hr and that was worth every penny! |

I almost felt that the Ed Wroght clinic I went to, I probably could have audited it and gotten the same out of it. But that's because I watched every person go instead of lolly gagging around. |

This is really starting to sound like a better option for me... That 30 minute factor is really pretty steep to try and justify at this point... |

Location: Great NW | I like to audit as many as I can. I only ride in clinics where I match the clinitians style.
I always say a clinic is worth the money if I can pick up just one bit of information to put in my tool bag. That being said - I NEVER sit at the trailer during a clinic weekend. When not riding I hang out where I can see and hear everything that is going on. I learn just as much if not more from watching the clinitian work with others than I do when they are working with me - so for my money I get my moneys worth. |

| I would caution going to more then 2 per year, as for myself it takes time for things to sink in, and I spend many hours in my patch go over what I remember from the clinic.
The clinicians I have been to
Marlene McRae, the first time the class was too big there was about 30 of us. The second time there was 4 and I learned way more the second time. Her little pointers were great talking about farrier, soundness, knocking, etc, she is a wealth of information.
Sharon Camarillo she is very old school, I found it great for colts, even though at the time I didn't think I learned anything. She really focuses on horsemanship. The down side to her is if you are not getting it she will skip over you, if she sees potential in you she will hammer on you.
Dena Kirkpatrick, the clinic I went to at the end of her Canada tour, I did feel cheated. I have never watched her videos, so I was a newbie to her ways. The other clinics watched the video, her comment at the clinic I attended was if you haven't watched the videos by now there is no sense watching them now. She also focused on the riders with pedigrees she liked, mine was not one of them.
Ed Wright I went into his clinic thinking he was going to make me cry and he was a hard ass. I have never laughed that much at any clinic. Ed also works on horsemanship, and his philosophy is a little different then others, he is a forward rider, and he wants your hands near their ears.
I have also had the privilege of going to canadian clinicians since I am from Canada and I have learned a lot from them as well.
I have had friends go to Charmaine's clinics, and they have learned a lot. The other thing is if you use her chiro, dentist, farrier, vet, this takes away from your riding time (this is what I have heard) and this is an added expense, so take extra cash |

It was more like 1 on 1 lessons, and she just worked with each of us for an hour - no agenda. Then, we could watch the others. I guess it wasn't really a typical clinic - she didn't put us all in one group and had us do the same thing. It was just really personable 1 on 1 time. We went out to eat with her for dinner and she is an absolute hoot! There were high level trainers, WPRA circuit winning girls there to work with her - I learned a TON from watching their sessions. |

I would probably faint to get to work with Bo Hill. I've never seen anything about her clinics. How often does she do them? Where can I find info? I would certainly be willing to pay $125 to get a full hour with her. |

I'm not really sure how it got set up, I think the people who set it up had personal connections with her. It was the Wed and Thurs before a Fri-Sun race. She stayed and ran in the futurity. I guess you could try just calling her. That was the only clinic she's done up here - it was summer of 2011. |

Location: Sunnyland Florida | I'd advise to attend all of them that you can. The absolute worst clinic I ever attended, I at least learned some valuable feeding information (very well know clinician).
You only take away a few pieces of information from each, which is worth the price paid. Depending on the level you started at, of course, you may learn a lot from some and a little from others.
Watch and learn from every person attending the clinic; not just you & your horse.

Location: Lewisburg, Tennessee | CYA Ranch - 2014-03-19 1:31 PM I ride with Connie Combs every year. I've tried others but her and I click and her style works for me. I'm actually riding with her this Fri-Sunday. I've used old finished horses to 3 yr olds to everything in between. This will be my 2nd time riding with my newer mare. Good for you! I'm riding with her in 2 weeks when she comes to Tennessee - I think this is my 5th clinic and I love her method - it's very natural for a horse to turn a barrel the way she teaches. One year I took a green on the barrels but broke young gelding to her clinic and we ran the 3rd fastest time at the end and he got "Most Improved Horse". He went on to make a 1D horse pretty quick.
You can bet all my ponies know what a "square" turn is.... It's even more exciting because my daugher is taking it with me this time

You'll have a blast! I just asked her today where she was off to in the next few weeks and I couldn't believe all the places she mentioned. She keeps busy with clinics that's for sure. This is my eighth and my daughter and soon to be sister in law is doing it also. I'm so tired and sore tonight but had a great 1st day! |

I audited Connie Comb's clinic today, and it is the first time I'd ever been to one of hers, and I thought it was excellent, and would highly recommend her...a great lady full of good training information. I agree riding with a trainer in a one on one situation is great, but not always feasable, and this is where clinics can really be a benefit. |
