Location: OH | lonely va barrelxr - 2014-05-02 1:26 PM Years ago I helped connect a high dollar young horse with his new owner. His previous owner repaid me by slamming me all over the horse world. I helped place another mid range mare with her new owner and ended up with a psycho previous owner hounding me (and the new owner) for months. So, imo, anything positive you might do is showing huge appreciation!!
OH---I remember this one, I found out a little too late though. |

Location: Nashvegas | I think a $500 gift card is a great idea! You could make it a gas gift card or to the friend's favorite tack store.I mean I know I could easily spend $500 at a tack store and well with gas/diesel prices what they are, that would be amazing. |

Location: The edge of no where | runs4fun - 2014-05-02 12:23 PM I brought a horse that belonged to a friend home with me from a show to show to another friend who ultimately bought the horse. I told the seller that I did it out of friendship for the both of them and I didn't want anything. She sent me a commission check in the mail anyway;. The check was tucked inside a beautiful thank you card. As it turned out, that very next week we had an emergency and the extra cash was very much appreciated! The check was $500.
Very classy of your friend! This is what I would do for someone that helped me sell a horse.... Even if they turn down a commission, I'm still sending them something. |

I think this is the best idea...a sweet thank you card in the mail with money is always a nice surprise when the mailbox could be full of bills. Also, for those of you that suggested the Visa gift card...everytime you use the gift card it charges a percentage to use it. I would prefer my friend to spend all that money on themselves. |

| It is so nice to hear everyone being so generous. I swear in our local area, no one even thinks of even saying "Thank You" for help matching up horses. Last time I sold a horse, I took in a young horse for my friend for 3 months free of charge in trade for commission, gave a gift card to a family member who had been helping me haul him to jackpots, and sent a gift card to the people who let us and the buyers meet at their arena to try him. |

Location: So. Cali. | A friend mentioned my mare to someone she knew looking and they purchased my mare off one try. I secretly got my friends address and sent her some cash for her effort. She wasn't expecting it which makes it all the more fun to send a little 'Thank you'. |

| If "friends" sent KJ $500 every time she helped them find a horse, We wouldn't have to work. She has put people together on $50k sales and not even got a thank you out of it. It's a good thing she like shopping for horses. |

How much Outback or Applebees (just examples) does someone need! lol You could do one of those Visa gift cards, but what the point? Why not just write the person a check at that point?
I dont know, but if the person made the comment "a gift card or something" in that manner, I'd suspect they'd not want much of anything. I'd say $100 is generous.
...but, $500 would say, "sell another horse for me and I'll pad your pocket again lol" I agree! It's kind of an expensive horse, and I think $500 says "really grateful for you thinking of me".
And with one of those Visa gift cards, he can buy gas, or anything...I don't think I would want $500 worth of Applebees LOL
Or.......she could just buy him a truck full of beer....... |

I personally think the $500 is the least amount I would give. Give him a gift card that can be used anywhere, they don't always have to be for dinner places...or just hand him cash!
I agree... 10% would be cheap so don't skimp.... Take him new $100 and hand it to him and say thank you Minimum $500 $1000 will sell more horses for you |

Location: Opelousas, LA | I agree with everyone else, $500- $1000 would be nice. Its good to know there are so many generous people in the world.
I helped a "friend" sell a $15,000 horse, she was in a jam (due to her own stupid decisions)and had already borrowed $3000 from me to get by. I told her I didn't need any commission, just glad to help out and quietly hoped she would be able to pay me back sooner rather than later. A year later I finally just filed on her in small claims court and she paid me before it went to court. I got called a chickens**t for all my troubles, lol.
Never again will I loan money unless I can afford to give it away. |

I definitely want to do something for him - I wouldn't dream of not showing him how much I appreciate what he did for me. Honestly, I don't see how someone could be so selfish as to not acknowledge when someone helps you.

| When I personally help a friend sell a horse, unless we have an agreement I am doing it out of kindness, not expecting anything in return. |
