IN THE HOUSE???? Heck NO!!! They can have it!!!  I know, I hate that it got in, so now I'm always on the snake hunt, and making sure all doors are close.
EWWWWW Snakes in YOUR HOUSE??? That is just too much for me to even think about..ratsnake or any snake for that matter would not be welcome in my house. What if it took up residence under my bed, along with the monsters that hide there, and came out at night to get me. I WOULD JUST DIE!! |

Location: Roping pen | We would kill 6-12 rattlesnakes around the yard every year until we started leaving a radio on in the barn. Haven't seen one yet. |

Location: NM...the Land of Manana | I have seen tons of bull snakes but no rattlers yet this year. Last year both my sister and my dog got bit by rattlers within 2 weeks of each other, so now I am all kinds of paranoid. |

What kind was it?
Copperhead, probably the one that bit my dog. But it was a rattler that got my horse:(

| We have tons of rattle I usually kill around ten a year but this year I thought about trying sulfer or lime .we have a man at work who sprays for insects and he also has something to repell snakes but I live too far out for people to come |

Sulfur does work and I have a bag of some kind of rose stuff that is sulfur. I will get it out when it stops raining. This is the second copperhead that has been killed down our road in a week. The other one was in a neighbor's garage. The road is VERY short.

Location: Red Raiderland | Yep, we've seen several copperheads and a couple rats snakes since the beginning of April. We just got nearly 4" of rain tonight so I expect more to be around. I am nervous as heck about them because my dogs get to go run the pastures with us every evening. I am really freaked about my two Doxies getting bitten. To add to my axiety the scorpions are out like crazy inside our new house. Ive probably killed 15 since moving in in Feb.

Location: North MS | If anyone wants example pics- I sure have some fresh ones! Last week I was working one county away from my home in North MS. I have went my entire life in MS without seeing a rattlesnake until last year. I ended up seeing two last year in Forest County, I now hate that county. So week before last I pick a plot to go work on by myself on a Friday (hard to get an assistant to help measure trees on Fridays). Last time it only had two trees on it and one of my subplots fell in a pasture. So I set out based on the crudely drawn map the previous cruisers made showing how to reach the plot. I walk down into a bottomland area and have to cross a dry creek. Area is moist, but no standing water. I poke around with my stick and scare my first MS chipmunk out of the bank area. Seems safe enough so I cross. I look around the immediate creek area for a bit easier way to cross coming back and see the snake. It is dangling and wrapped partially in and out of vines/overhanging items on the creek edge. My first thought was rattlesnake but I couldn't see the head well or the tail at all. So I snapped a quick pic with my phone and moved on. Faced a mountain of kudzu ahead of me and the snake took all my courage so I forged my own trail over to the pasture and walked in that way. The plot ended up being not too badly covered in kudzu and thankfully I avoided the snake area on the way out.
Fast forward to Monday- I am heading down to Jackson MS for a meeting for training on how to measure vegetation on plots (we only measure trees during spring and fall). So I decide to locate two of my future plots near the meeting area. I find the first one easy and it is a fairly long walk so I decide not to investigate further. I drive to the second plot area and look for a way in with my truck. A man stops and asks if I need help- turns out he is the landowners son and points out his uncle at a nearby home. The uncle drives me directly to where he thinks the plot is and wants to get out and look for it. We are less than 400' from the truck and my snake boots are in my truck. He mentions he pulled the tags off the trees that we use to find the plots. I am walking around looking for a base tag on two trees and the landowner nearly steps on a snake. Timber Rattler. Turns out the snake of last week according to my picture research was also a timber rattler. Me and a coworker ended up going back to my second plot and as we were looking for the pin marking plot center in the ground- the SAME darn snake was laying next to one of the tagged trees. 8' from the plot center. My coworker killed it and I brought it out. I plan to turn him into a headstall/breastcollar set.
Todays snake of the day for me- just a water snake in the road thankfully! |

Location: stray dump capital of the world | My neighbor and I were out walking tonight in a little neighborhood not far from my property. I saw a coral snake and in processing the info, I started saying, "red on yellow kills a fellow; red on black, friend of Jack. She asked why I was reciting nursery rhymes, so I pointed. Then I explained it wasn't a nursery rhyme. This one, thankfully, was dead, so I took a picture to show my 4th graders tomorrow. Too bad they are poisonous because they really are beautiful snakes. personally, I am fascinated by snakes. My husband, on the other hand, is terrified of them. I have to beg him not to kill the nonpoisonous ones.
