I loved him in Dead Poets Society, especially the last scene. So sorry to hear he is gone.

If anyone cared to see, here is the last scene from Dead Poets Society, and a farewell to a great actor.

I'll never forget a scene in Mork and Mindy where they tried to give each other a big kiss while they were both grinning.  Their front teeth clashed so loud you could hear the big click.  Both of them cracked up but what I thought would have been an out-take was left in and it was soooooo funny to watch.

I thought someone once told me he suffered from manic depressive. I could be wrong on that. I believe a lot of really engaging actors and comedians do suffer from this; its one of the things that makes them so good. They can go sooo high and take us with them. Unfortunately, once they are alone they generally tend to fall pretty hard. A lot of them struggle with destructive behaviors like drug addiction and alcoholism too. It's soo sad.

No doubt he was an incredibly talented man and we will all miss his wit and talent.

I agree. I suppose the reason why some of his best work was playing serious roles, because that just came natural to him. I would imagine that those roles came close to being a reflection of his true inner persona. He was different than most other comedians in this way, I think. "Tears of a Clown" will be playing in my head for a few days, no doubt. This hit me hard. I hope that his death won't be in vain and it will go a long ways toward a renewed focus on just how devastating and far reaching serious depression can be. Just throwing a random drug at it isn't the answer, yet that's what happens all too often......this is one of the potential consequences. I think serious depression is in adequately treated.....often by people who have no business treating it. Just my personal opinion.

Still trying to wake up from this nightmare....He is/was one of my favorites, and he was our modern day Bob Hope with our troops.

Not only was he a big supporter of our troops but he also loved the kids of St. Jude. This is a picture from about 10 years ago of him here in Memphis. My cousin is the little girl without hair on the left, my aunt is the lady with a shaved head, and on the far right in the yellow shirt is my other cousin.

The biggest thing you will hear about Robin Williams is that he LOVED everyone. He genuinely cared about every person he met. What a legacy to leave.

Steve Martin is a victim of depression also.

A lot of the stuff he did in that movie was off-the-cuff improvisation... Something he excelled at of course.. His inspiration and hero was Johnathon Winters... Who just died last year... Here they are together on a short 60 minutes clip...

You know... Dreamworks bought the movie rights to 'A Dog's Purpose"... I believe with this man's death they missed out on the perfect voice for this dog as it traveled from life to life searching for it's reason for being.. He could even have done the voice of the only female it was born into..

cranky B4 10am - 2014-08-11 8:30 PM Such a loss. I actually had the honor of meeting him while I was deployed. And he was such a nice, down to earth and friendly person. He truly was interested in us. We were having a late diner in the defac, and he was there too, he sad down with us and we talked for about 20 mins. I remember a friend getting a phone call from our base back home and he told the other guy, "you never believe who is sitting at our table" well of course he didn't believe it, so Robin grabbed the phone and started talking to the guy. We had to email pics and only after he saw those he believed he talked to Robin. Later that evening Robin performed on stage for the troops. Totally awesome!

The world got a little darker in my opinion with his passing.

RIP Robin, hopefully you now have the peace and quiet you longed for.

I loved reading your story about him.  I've heard that an alcoholic who goes straight for a number of years and then goes back to the booze has a very slim chance of living- seems that this is what did him in- and I don't blame him.  It's taken lots of others down as well-

One of the most memorable movies that RW was in called "What Dreams My Come", which dealt with the after life and suicide. The movie came out very close to that day that my best friend had committed suicide-1998. I had never gone to the movies by myself but my pain that day was unbearable and I just had to be alone. I sat in the very back and just cried my heart out. In another sense it was so cathartic.  I plan  on pulling out this movie that I have not seen in several years and remember my bestest friend and Robin.   May they both rest in peace.

Robin Williams... as a robot in Bicentennial Man was, in court, denied the right to be called Human because he was immortal due to his positronic brain. Then appearing back in the same court many years later after having himself modified to grow old and die, he was granted a place in humanity and had his marriage to the woman he loved declared valid.
I find it ironic that after seeking death on his own terms he will remain immortal due to his lifetime of outstanding work.
