Location: CTX | Shot a lot of Uzi's lately Komet?? And yes, before you ask, when I first got into the service our weapon was the Uzi.
Anyway, and there is a reason most of these weapons come with a "burst" setting. This means that even if you clamp down on the trigger you only shoot off 3 or 5 rounds at a time.... And every time you want to fire again you have to release the trigger and pull it again.
And yes, you can put them on auto which will empty your clip in no time. But unless you are very good at shooting these weapons after the first couple of rounds you will loose target because the gun will start to go up. Even for an adult this is the case.
I agree, why set this girl up for failure, because that is what happened here.
Unfortunately the instructor's life has been lost, but remember, the girls life will never be the same. And the adults are to blame, they should have known better.
Such a sad story all together.

I have never fired a fully automatic weapon tho I do understand anything more than a 3 round burst from any one of them is wasted rounds because it's virtually impossible to stay on target. I have however fired thousands of 9mm rounds from handguns. My personal favorite was the Beretta Parabellum like the one used in Lethal Weapon... Loved that gun!!!  |

Location: California | Who are the parents? Are they nuts? I feel so bad for the girl and the instructor's family. That poor kid will indeed need therapy. I saw that on the news and I nominate it for the WTF moment for the week. |

I've never shot a Beretta, so I don't know if I would like it. Personally I just picked up a 9mm Bersa, and I love it. Also I got a S&W 38 special revolver for my Bday (yep, hubby did good!) as a concealed, and I really like that one.
I am also no against kids learning to shoot and handle weapons, but it needs to be done with common sense, which was clearly not done this time.
We can only hope that other people learn from this mistake...

Location: SE Louisiana | Now there is a story coming out about a COPS TV crew member that was shot and killed at an armed robbery of a Wendy's joint... Only the robber had an airsoft pistol and all the bullets were fired by police.. |

The instructor was an idiot. I can't imagine why you would let a 9 year old, unexperienced child handle a fully automatic weapon. I doubt that poor girl will ever want to experience the joy that can come with shooting after this tragedy.
I'm fully pro gun. I hunt, shoot trap, and we have a couple of hand guns. I'd never let an inexperienced kid shoot much more than a .22. Maybe a shotgun soon after the .22, but they'd be well prepared. |

Location: wherever my daughter's running | I agree with what is being said. I would like to add that I sure hope the parents are shielding this 9 year old from all that is being said in the media. I watched a lenghtly segment on this tragedy and it ripped everyone involved apart then at the end it said they hoped the child would get counseling - she will need it more than ever if she saw the segment I watched. I strongly believe in teachable moments - but his one needed a filter for the sake of the child who at any point in her life may decide to revisit this through technology. Prayers for all involved. |

So can a BB gun... That's not the point... I don't fault the police for shooting the robber.... But someone didn't hit his target... Instead he hit the COPS crewman.. |

Yes, the parents were present and videotaping. It showed the video on the news last night - right up to just a moment before the instructor was shot. The instructor was standing next to her on her left side with one hand in front near the gun and one hand behind her back - the owner of the gun range said that is their procedure - ready to grab the gun with the right hand if something goes wrong. |
