| My broods get normal grain amounts, and everyone gets a handful daily so I can feed their vitamin/mineral. But I've gone from using 15 bags a month to 4. Getting less than a pound a day has aleviated all the grain-based issues. Their feet have changed, their attitudes are great, energy high but not hot. After weaning and drying up I'm going to try feeding the alfalfa (replaced grain in my feed program) to the broods twice daily instead of grain and give that a try. |

| I have 3 horses and i feed one 50 bag of blue seal low starch. I have a yearling, and older brood mare and she could be fatter, but i know she needs her teeth done, and my 11 year old 16.1 hand gelding. All plenty fat. Get a good size flake a hay, and grass all they can eat. In winter i give some hay replacement pellets of some kind and beet pulp.
And a slice of alfalfa. I used to feed at least to feed at least 100 pounds of feed for the same amount of horses. And if i am workimg my gelding hard i get some kool kalaries which is a granulated fat. Really good. Not expensive and works. |

| Mine are on free choice brome (round bale), Max E-Glo, Alfalfa cubes, Platinum, and raspberry leaves (they are both mares and it WORKS)
They are sassy, fit, and in great shape this year. They look great, feel great, and my finished mare is running hard. The 3 yo filly works her booty off for me 5x a week in training. I have no complaints and my feed bill has gone WAY down. :) |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | I have a weanling, 7 yr old, 14 yr old and 16yr old. All are on Renew Gold, alfalfa pellets, alfalfa cubes and some coastal hay/pasture. Also they get Oxygen supplements. They all look and feel great. Love that I can feed the same thing to all of them and not have separate feeds! |

Location: Willows, CA | On Renew Gold availability, if you can get Max E Glo in your area, Renew Gold is available to the store on the same truck. Many stores just do not know this. While Renew Gold is not owned by Manna Pro like Max E Glo is, they both are distributed East of the Rocky Mountains by Manna Pro. |

| So.... If you want to go grain free.... What is the best supplement? And what all DO they need? Mine get safechoice, chaffhaye, DE, Fasttrack and AVC twice a day. They have access to free choice minerals 24/7 and are turned out 24/7.
Ive looked at the Dynamite supplements. Anyone feed them? |

Location: Louisiana | casualdust07 - 2014-09-09 3:28 PM If I had it my way, I would not feed grain. It is better for the horse to eat mostly forage with vitamins and minerals supplemented as needed. Ideally, you should test your pastures and your hay to see what they are getting and compare that to what they require for nutrition… and then supplement based off that. However, it can be time consuming and those levels change a lot especially during the time of year. If I was at home with my horses and had enough pasture for them to live off, I would be all over it. But I am at school and depend on my mom and sister to feed and ride my horses…we have enough pasture for them to move around and graze on, but not enough for them to really live off so we still feed a complete feed and then give hay and pasture in addition. One day when I'm out of school and have my own place, I will hopefully have it set up to where they can live off the grass and get supplementation with vitamins and minerals.
I'm in a similar situation. My horse is still at home and the rest of the barn gets grain. And my mom only has a couple acres so there isn't anything to graze, they just get out to move around and socialize. I'm studying nutrition in school and it is something I'm passionate about, so it naturally carries over to my horse. We have close to 10 acres at my fiance's place but it doesn't have good grass...YET. Slowly but surely we will get there, it just needs a complete overhaul. So hopefully as we get good pasture established I can start backing everybody off grain. His horses get grain as well because they are mainly picking at weeds and crab grass. |

I have asked every tractor supply in a 40 mile radius if they can get it and they all say no and wont look into it further. |

Location: Willows, CA | Call our office and we will get you taken care of. 530-934-9300. As I mentioned before. Do not try to get it from Tractor Supply!!! Renew Gold is in a trial in some west coast stores and generally not available through them anywhere else. A few other stores have taken the trouble to get it for customers. In general though, Tractor Supply is a no go. I have tried to get them to take it off of their web site with no success. Any independent feed store in the US that carries Manna Pro products can get it with a simple order. If they say that they can't it is simple laziness not availability. |

That is what I pay here in S Texas. It lasts a month for one horse if you feed 1 lb a day. |

Do you split the feedings twice a day? What else do you feed with it? I really only have 2 that are in work that would probably need the full lb. My other one would probably just get a half lb. Hes a super easy keeper. |

I do split into 2 feedings. I feed 2.4 lbs of alfalfa cubes, a supplement scoop of whole flaxseed twice a day. In the evening I add grostrong mineral/vitamins and AE because we are surrounded by farm land and I just feel better when I periodically feed it. Also because of the drought our hay is not high quality, but no weeds and they look really good. Fat and shiny. |

My hay isnt horrible but not that great either. Id definitely have to add alfalfa pellets or cubes for the calories on my two that are working. I need to price those in my area (new mexico) and see how much I might be saving making the switch!
Thanks for the info! |
