Well here I am all the way up here in Sturgis,SD... and I am still very confused about this barrel race.

I cannot find a schedule ANYWHERE. Is there one? I have called and a girl told me "it will be posted this week". Ok well isn't it starting today? Does anyone know what is going on? The only information I have found is conflicting. I have seen it posted that it starts with PeeWees at 12 on Sat, and I have seen that PeeWees is at 1130? And I have seen it starts at 1, is that the peewees or the open? Is there still open riding at that arena tonight? Can you still buy exhibitions for tomorrow or were those all pre bought? When does that start? If any of you locals have any clue what's going on, please let me know?

I will try to answer some of your questions as I understand what is going on. There is not open riding tonight anymore but they are doing just straight exhibitions. The people that had paid for exhibitions previously get preference (not sure how that works-they said different colored tickets) but there should still be plenty of time for people to exhibition tonight that have not paid for them previously. You can still buy exhibitions in the morning and they are starting at 6AM instead of 7AM. Again the pre paid exhibitions get preference and I think they had like over 300 of those maybe sold?

I believe the open starts at 1PM on Saturday. They have over 300 pre-entries and then they will run the late draw. I think you have to be entered for the late draw by noon on Sat. Sunday starts at 10AM. They reverse the order for Sunday again with the pre-entries and then the late draw. I hope that answers your questions. I have been trying to follow along. LOL!

The draw for both days and exhibitions can be found here: http://www.todayshorse.net/todays-horse-west-fest/

I have not technically seen an actual schedule. I went by what was on the entry form.

I just found this info. as well about pee wees.

Predraw for Today's Horse West Fest is posted at www.todayshorse.net under the West Fest tab! Check it out! Also we have 16 pre entries for peewees! The draw is posted for both Saturday and Sunday plus a prepaid exhibition list is posted...you can late enter up until noon on Saturday this includes open and youth...peewees need to be entered by 11 Saturday! Excited to see you all for a great weekend of barrel racing!

I saw the pre draw, and I am not in it. But I saw 2 different draws one on the facebook page, and one on the website. Did they re-draw? Because the draw #'s were different.

Also, isn't the point of a reverse draw getting the opposite ground of what you drew the first round? Everyone on the top of the ground for the first run, gets the top of the ground the second run here... That sucks, especially for people that got bottom of the ground 2 days in a row. I'm really not impressed and starting to wish I didn't haul the extra horses up here.

How crappy to reverse the order to give people the same ground two days in a row. The WHOLE POINT OF REVERSING ORDER is to get the contestants reverse GROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes they did put up a draw on facebook but I don't think it was complete because I know my numbers did change. I moved down 6 on one of my horses. The reverse order does put you on top one day and then the bottom the next. For example I am 241 on Sat. so should be first on rake and then on Sun. I am 74 so should be on the bottom. Are you supposed to be in the pre-draw?

Just looked at the draw again and looks to me like everyone gets the exact same ground 2 days in a row.

I am going to Rapid, but for only one reason, I got hurt and my daughter can run my horse is I am unable to run and we need a pick up at home and she needs her horse brought home.  I willnot complain as I host a big barrel race and appreciate anything I don't have to work at.

CYA Ranch - 2014-09-29 6:30 PM I'm going to Huron instead of Rapid.  Hopefully next year they split some of these runs up.  I've always wanted to go to Bowman too.  I know Bowman was moved to Sept because of the EHV1 outbreak.  Will it be in the spring or fall next year?
From what I understand Bowman will be back to the Spring next year. I thought I had seen she put dates out already. I like having it in the fall but wish it would have been different than Rapid. I loved going to Bowman the couple times I went.

Edited because I found the date for next year: Mark your calendars for 2015...9th Annual Triple Turn Classic April 18th- 19th! No EHV1 please and thank you!!

Thank you!

I was not in the first draw posted. I am in the one posted on the website. I have 2 horses entered and have the last in the drag 4 times because of the "reverse draw". Why would they not re draw the second round? Who reverses orders for big barrel races? And then does it incorrectly? Sorry, all of this disorganization is really making me unhappy when I have no less than $5,000 wrapped into this weekend.

Sorry you are hurt. I have also put on barrel races and it is not that fun. I think they are trying their best and being accommodating and that is all we can ask.

I have different draws on 2 out of three horses, and bottom of the ground twice on another. "Luck of the Draw", welcome to barrel racing.

Yeah, that's fine. Except, that is not a draw, it's a reverse order, and it was done incorrectly.

I have put on plenty of barrel races, that is why I am SURE THAT THIS IS WRONG. It's not a question of whether or not they are being accomodating, it is a question of following very standard protocol to run things FAIRLY. I am not impressed.

Every single person that drew bottom of the ground on Saturday drew bottom for Sunday also. There needs to be a re draw on Sunday or they are in for a crap storm of epic proportions.

I do not see your problem, reverse order is done several places and it works just fine!  How can it be so bad?  For example Deb Cox (sorry Deb I just happened to pick your name out of the list) runs #14 on Saturday so number 4 on the drag and on Sunday she runs #301 which is #1 on the drag BUT at the end of the day.

I think you're splitting hairs.  Calm down and go have fun.  I don't know how far you're hauling from but if you have 2 good horses to run and 1 that needs vet care, you are doing something right!  Give me an example of unfairness here and I will chew on it, maybe I am wrong.  Clear up the confusion for me.  ND state NBHA race is run reverse order and seems fair enough to me.

Dragging every 5 to my knowledge. Have never been there but heard it is deep sand. Which makes running at the bottom of the ground 2 days in a row extra frustrating.
