to be a trailer tire it MUST HAVE .... ST ... in the number sequence like your tires they should read ... ST235 85 16 or ST235 85r16 .....
Trailer tires will have a straight line tread pattern to make them pull straighter behind your trailer and slide side ways easier when making any kind of turn ........ where truck tires the tread design hangs over the side of the tire and creates a drag which makes the tire fold up and become damaged very easily.
Running your trailer tires at full air pressure that is stated on the sidewalls of your trailer tires is required to get the best use of the tire. Stiffer side walls, less heat (under inflated tires will get so hot they will glow in the dark)
Most trailer tires showing a load range E or F will show 3,000 to 4,000 load weight for each tire ... truck tires are about a 1000 lbs less per tire .... so multiply whatever number you find on your tires by 4 and that is the maximum weight the tires can handle .... and that does not mean at hiway speed ... you want to have at least 25% more tire load capacity than the weight you are carrying in your trailer and be aware ... 65MPH IS THE MAX SPEED FOR MOST TRAILER TIRES!!
well now i am gonna have to go look at our trailer..lol...we just got it a few months ago and to be honest i never even looked at the tires, i checked to make sure they were not worn out ..lol.....i think as long as you have a good ply you should be good....the price difference is crazy imo......

| I am replacing mine with the good year 14 ply. I am getting different opinions on whether I need to upgrade my wheel. Some say I can run 100 psi but I am leaning towards getting new wheels too. |

i just called a tire shop, just because..and you are bang on correcto, seguin tires (thats the brand they sell) are made in china.............now im gonna call the tire guy we use and quiz him.....thanks for the info nevertooold

The sidewalls held but the tread wore stupid and I got the alignment checked on it a couple times during the life of the tires to make sure it was in alignment. We're distributers for a statewide tire chain and asked our rep what he recommended for my trailer. I'm not at home to look at the trailer but they're made in China 14 ply steel belted and cost over $100 less per tire. I am more than pleased. They saved me money, and are wearing exceptionally well. I don't like giving the Chinese my money but until the US makes something decent I'll keep buying what's working for me. |

I have a 4 horse with a 14' shortwall with a slideout. I wish you were closer because I can get them at a discount. |

I have a 4 horse with a 10'ft LQ. I try to avoid travel in the heat of the day down here but my tires still get HOT!! Last blowout I couldn't even touch the lugnuts they were so hot. I am going to try the nitrogen. I had 3 blowouts on the trailer in 2 months, went to a race Sunday and had a blowout on front drivers side on my dually, had all new Michelins put on today. Truck tires were due though, purchased in 09. The trailer has 3 new tires on it but going to replace all 4 with 14 ply. The 3 recent blowouts were covered under warranty. |

| I think the pound age of the horses in most trailers are underated, 3, 1200 horses is 3600 plus 800 worht of tack. I would go with at least 12 ply trailer tire they have a higher heat tolerance if not a 14 ply. Goodyear is not a good a tire maker as they used to be. When i am putting tires on a heavy trailer i call my supplier. I have 3 different ones and get their advice.

I talked to my supplier too and even though he also sells the GOodyears he suggested the ones I purchased. He sells them to a lot of people with LQ trailers and stock trailers and people really like them Tire shopping is about as frustrating as saddle fitting/shopping. |

Four brand new tires, nearly 1000 dollars. No serious wear and tear on the tires. Just over a year old. And the belts on two broke. We made it to OK to pick up a mare and noticed two tires were very swollen. One ended up blowing on the way back, thankfully close to home. We threw the other one out when we replaced them with Hankook 14 ply. Much happier now and that the main tire that every livestock hauler around here uses.
I want to say we paid 220 each BUT it's a hometown family owned shop and I know we got a little bit of help on the price since we do all our business there.
Key points, the heavier trailers, avoid LT tires. They are not designed for horse trailers. People use them because you can run 75 mph plus.
Second, I don't think there's a single ST tire rated for over 65 mph. So more reason to slow down. First for safety, second for fuel mileage, and last, to save on tires.
Yes American made is way better then China, but sometimes you don't have a choice. I have no idea where our Hankooks were made but I'm happy with them. |
