I would not have thought In a million years I would own a Arabian but I fell in love w one and bought her she's the smartest most intelligent horse I've ever owned she's sensitive but in a good way best personality! She is. 21-22 pole horse and 2d barrel horse locally and 3-d at bigger shows. I would own another after owning her. There are Arabs off the track just like qh and tb so they can have speed!! Their endurance is unreal mine never gets winded never breathes hard it amazes me. I also trail ride, work cattle, and jump(3ft) w her but barrels and poles is her thing and have won a lot off of her

I agree that you won't be going very fast, but I've been around some really, really great Arabs. The ones I've ridden were all sure footed, easy going, and had gentle personalities.

I get real tired of the viciousness towards Arabs...I've seen one (1) "crazy" Arab in my life, and I can assure you that his issues were man made. The horses that I've seen having freakouts, running off, and generally behaving badly were all of the quarter variety who had the same man made issues.

Thanks to a very dear friend, I had the opportunity to keep and compete on her Quarab during high school. What a wonderful mare. Not only was she the most beautiful horse I've ever seen (totally biased here ok lol) she was athletic, strong, and FAST. She ran 1D local times with me and at big shows she would occasionally fall into the 2D. She was so much fun to ride, I never thought she was running as hard/fast as she was and the first time I actually entered her I was absolutely floored.

I wish I had a picture on this computer because she really was stunning. 14.3 HH so light gray she was white, long mane and beautiful tail! She had a blaze and socks that I didn't find until I washed her We dressed her up as a unicorn for halloween because she had that look lol

I love it!!! I love hearin everyone stories! I have seen a lot of Arabs or part Arabs run kcal how's and do very well, but never have I owned one! I am a quarter horse lover myself, but again if I ever found the "perfect" horse and he or she was an Arab I don't think I could pass it up!

Fairweather - 2014-10-29 2:12 PM Al Marah Arabian use their show horses to work cattle and do ranch work. Look up Sheila Varian sometime!

Arabs are extremely smart and extremely light. The majority of folks don't get along too well with horses that have those two qualities. They wind up frustrating the horse and they wind up over-cueing. A smart horse won't put up with a lot.

I have a "crazy" Arab that's so nuts he's leased out to a therapuetic riding facility riding kids around. He was so crazy that he was my best cow horse and I showed him Hunter too and started him on barrels. To top it off he was race bred to boot!

I trained Arabs full time for a few years. I took 3-4 year olds that barely led that had been turned out and turned them into show prospects in a couple months. Had an Arab stallion that was ridden by a 70 year old cancer patient pony me on a colt's first trail ride out by some mares and never had a problem. They came along a lot quicker than most other horses I've worked.

They may not be as fast from a take off but they don't have to slow down in their turns and they get faster further on in the pattern when a QH may be backing off. They're athletic , they have a huge heart and tons of try, and you have to earn their respect. They're not crazy. They just require a better horseman.
In that case I think my horse might be very stupid lol!

I really do like Arabs though. This is my last trainer's daughter on her Grand Prix horse. They raise, train, and show Arabs in dressage and have been very successful. I was around a LOT of arabians at that barn and the only crazy ones were their retraining projects that had been in some seriously messed up situations. They may not be super quick, but they're athletic and beautiful horses._SHN4918-72
