docschic - 2014-11-18 10:32 AM I am the "Lucky" individual that gets to cook for 12 this year.  I'm going traditional....Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean cassaerole, pumpkin pie and lemon dessert.  Turkey gets cooked in the roaster, stuffing in the crock pot, potatoes boiled and mashed and into the crockpot and greenbean crap in the crockpot.  I found a pumpkin pie recipe for a 9x13 cake pan and lemon dessert is in a 9x13 cake pan.  That's it.....

SG, I make a flour rue, please use real butter, add some white pepper(a little goes a long way), Add chicken bullion or ham stir add a little milk(keep it like a paste).  Now here is where I keep this not a calorie buster side.  Add your frozen pearl onions, set temp on low as the onions de-thaw and cook it makes the sauce.  Most recipes call for half and half or heavy cream, this is my lower calorie version, and every year I get rave reviews from our dinner guests. If you want the peas in this nothing changes except the amount of rue you make.  If it is to thick add a little more milk.

And the barley casserole-other than the butter is it really very bad for you??  Sounds pretty dang tastey!

We keep it pretty basic..MIL makes the Turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing and I will bring deviled eggs, GB Cassarole and Peach Cobbler.  I thought about making Pioneer Womans sweet potatoe cassarole but very few eat it and I thought it would be a waste.

Going traditional nothing too fancy . Turkey , Ham , Mashed potatos & turkey gravy , green bean casserole w/ prosciutto & mushrooms, salad , rolls and cranberry sauce . This year I'm going to try making a cornbread stuffing with country gravy that I saw on The Chew. Pumpkin pie & a berry pie are also a must. Not sure how I'm going to time everything , we only have a single oven.

Go buy you a convection oven, around $120, you can cook your casseroles in it or pies.

I have an electric roaster that I've baked cakes and pies in when I've had something else in my oven.  Its cheap, less than $50, and it really comes in handy.

There is also a topping that goes on before baking.  I will have to look, but I think it's Italian Dressing, bread crumbs and parmesean cheese.  It is soooo good!

Last year I had 21 at my table and this year it's only going to be 6 to 8 this year (I promise I didn't make anyone sick - other family obligations for the rest of them this year, hehe) but still making the full meal deal -  turkey, green beans (cooked all day with bacon), relish tray, rolls, dressing that I could eat all of by itself (I don't put mine in the turkey), pumpkin pie, and a german chocolate pie.  My mother in law is bringing a ham and the mashed potatoes, I will make the gravy from the turkey drippings.  I can feel myself foundering on all this food just thinking about it!

My mom does most of the cooking, but usually everyone coming tries to bring an appetizer or dessert. This year, mine is going to be bourbon pumpkin pie. Did a test run making it this past weekend, and it was a-mazing.

mruggles - 2014-11-18 9:25 AM we already had our thanksgiving..(i went barrel racing..lol) but i have been informed that i am cooking a ham and making buns along with cinnamon buns and some mashed potatoes and stuffing and gravy and pecan pie..for christmas..THERE ARE 2 OF US......WTF

thats what happens when brent gets hit with a brain fart...lol

I have the perfect solution....

www.honeybaked.com  Fantastic meals for 2  just heat and serve and THEY do taste like homemade

And OMG.....it will be the best Thanksgiving meal you've ever had!  If we had one here locally that is definitely what i'd do!  Their ham and their turkey are to die for!!!  Plus, you can get all of your sides there too and voila, dinner is served!
