aquinnell - 2014-11-20 5:01 PM Dental Hygiene I work Mon-Thurs 7am-4pm and make a lot of money Plus I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job!! I would absolutely LOVE those hours! Is that full time though? Just curious!
Thanks ks cowgirl for the insight...anything with flexible hours or where you can work Monday to Thursday is most interesting to me.
It is possible, but it would be with a small local CPA firm. The hours however, would be over 40 during January-April if you are doing tax. |

| I worked as a secretary for an accounting firm while I was in college, and tax season the CPA's were putting in 80++ hours a week from January to April....and then you have extensions. October was always a little busy because of that.
You could always become a teacher. |

Location: Home....Smiling M Farms | I know a lot of girls that are teachers and honestly, that sounds about right. Work Monday-Friday, day shift hours. No weekends, off summers, most holidays. Money isn't great but it works with the horse schedule.
I've debated going back to school a little longer to do that. I could be a high school since teacher with the education I've already got. Only thing is that it would most likely be a pay cut. :( |

| I am a teacher, and just putting this out there make over $40,000.00 I won't give the exact amount but this just gives some a general idea. I know some states pay less and some pay more. It also depends on your experience and your degrees. Some teachers in my district make $60,000.00.
Could I make more? Yes, but I also still have enough to have horses and show every weekend. |

| I've got a pretty neat job, but I'm pretty much homeless. I take my horses with me chasing pipelines. I've met family and wonderful friends and horse world contacts all along the way, people that take care of me and that I'd do anything for. I met my husband along the way, too, and gained even more family.
It's been a great way to run barrels in all parts of the country. Texas has been especially good to me, I've been here almost 4 years in a pretty localized area. I bought a giant 5th wheel with four slide outs, it's very much home!!
I'm an environmental inspector specializing in erosion control, site stabilization, and reclamation. Entry level pay is $600 a day. I've been a boss for three years, the pay is better. A lot of that is per dium and mileage and other pay outs that are non taxeable. Sometimes the hours can be quite overwhelming to get everything done, but I'm doing it. Plenty of folks I know work part of the year then go home, then pick up another job when they're ready. It can be done. When we get our place paid for, I'm going rod doing in the summers!
I have a Bachelors of Science in Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management from University of Wyoming. That sort of degree and some common sense and the ability to think for yourself will get you pretty much anywhere you want to go in the pipeline or private energy company world you need to go.
The private company world (google EHS coordinator, etc) are home based, have weekends off, and run about 75,000-100,000 a year. I might go for that once we get settled down. Right now, we're too busy rolling! It's very much an adventure.

For dental hygiene yes thats considered "full time". Most offices around here are also open fridays, but only for half days. I make right around $65000 a year and Ive only been out of school 2 years |

| I was going to suggest teaching - at least you would know you had holidays, part of a summer and weekends off. My dad was a principal for 35+ years - if you decide to get into the administrative area, the pay is decent (although headaches come with it too). |

| Why don't you do something you love? If you don't have a passion for some of the jobs mentioned so far, it won't be great for you or those you are helping. What do you want to do? What do you think you would do well? Don't just think of a job with the fewest required hours. Also, just because it appears there aren't many required hours, doesn't mean you won't work a lot of extra hours. You may just have to put in those hours in addition to your required hours and do that extra work without pay to get it all done. |

Location: Arkansas | I have a marketing degree, but I know work in Admin for the Federal Government. The pay is great, and you start earning annual and sick leave right away. You can also advance very quickly if you have a good work ethic (at least where I am). I work 7-3:30 M-F. |

| outrundaizy - 2014-11-20 5:48 PM No to accounting. That's what I originally wanted to do and if you want to make any real money you will be working your a$$ off. And during tax season forget about your horses. You will have the money to hire someone to take care of them but kind of defeats the purpose. I say go into Marketing, that's what i'm doing and I have yet to find a negative thing about it. Simple 4 year degree, crazy good salaries, and flexible schedules. Plus super useful if you ever want a horse business.
It really depends on what kind of accountant you are. If it's just bookkeeping, the stress really just isn't much of a factor. I've been an accountant for years, and I must be a lucky one because I've yet to feel like I have zero time for my horses or supremely stressed out because of work. Accountant does not always equal doing taxes. It's a solid living that you could literally move anywhere in the country and find a job. I have nothing bad to say about it. My sister just got her marketing degree and had a hard time finding a job, but she did eventually find her dream job working at a newspaper, so the jobs are out there, but it may take a bit to find them. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing! |

| I'm a teacher, so work 180 days a year. I have rental properties to produce an extra income on top of my salary. This seems ideal, but I am still find myself seeking other avenues lol....I still have to take time off, and am always wanting more money!
Ideally, I'd be a trophy wife that rides horses all day. That's not happening, as my barn is cleaner than my house and because of that I usually walk around in barn clothes smelling like horse poop :) |

Location: Texas | I am a respiratory therapist and if you work in a hospital it is typically three twelve hour shifts per week and every other weekend. So most have plenty of time to ride and compete. It also pays pretty good. On average 60 to 75 per year. Depending on shift and city you work in. I left the hospitL and am in medical sales now and make substantially more. There are 2 yr and 3 yr degrees In Respiratory therapy. Good luck |

Sodapop, I would love to have horses as my job. I love working around them, training them, doing things with them and watching them progress. But since I don't have the facility or the knowledge yet to do it as a job, I don't see that as a possibility in the short term. Perhaps in 10-15 years it will be a possibility. Mostly I'm trying to find a job that I don't hate that will afford me what I want to do.
As for accounting, around here most of the jobs listed looking for accountants are 9-5 type jobs with a hospital or a government office or payrolling/bookkeeping type jobs. Yes there are CPA jobs around available too, but that isn't the ideal area I would like to go into (but would if the need arose). I was looking at our local rodeo schedules, and most rodeos are Saturdays (including slack) so possibly a 9-5 job would work for me.
I love all the ideas coming at me, so thank you so much! |

Montana may not have these, but alternative campuses. It is awesome. I get off at 345 and I don't worry about anything until the next morning. Discipline here is great. At a normal campus I don't think I would do the same. |

How many years is it? I've been wanting to go to school for it for awhile, but most programs I've looked into was a 2 year program. |

| Not all accountants do taxes. I've been a manufacturing accountant for many years and have always had time for the horses. Sometimes I long hours, but it is usually spaced out so there was still time enough. Benefits can be good depending on the company you work for and pay as you move up can also be very attractive. I have raised 2 kids and supported my horse habit doing this. |

redmansmyman11 - 2014-11-20 10:15 AM you'll find that job on the shelf between the unicorns and pegasus I kind of figured that would be the answer, LOL.
Thanks LRQHS. My cousin's wife just got her RN and she is having a hard time finding a job around here. Thanks R_Beau...my idea of jobs is kind of narrow, so sometimes others have more ideas.
I have never know of many jobs to be in Around Here I think it is because it is really far out but every where else in the country has a BIGGGGGGGG need for nurses. Tell her to not give up. |
