Location: In a happy place | I cannot believe that people have that in their heart to treat a poor animal like that. I don't know how but this person needs to be punished. I love his breeding and the way he looks when he was healthy. Bless your heart and your friends for helping this poor guy. I feel sure I don't need to remind you but make sure right here at first don't feed him too much and I would not even consider worming him for a while. I wish you best of luck with him and please keep us posted. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | good lord...that person should be brought up on charges for starving that horse. But as others have said...you can often turn them around and have them back to rights with care and time.
UC Davis has a good publication on this. Refeeding syndrome can really cause problems. So be careful in how you bring him back to shape. http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/ceh/docs/horsereport/pubs-July2012-bkm-sec.pdf |

| So glad that you picked him up! You'll get him turned around and have yourself an awesome (not to mention appreciative), pretty horse. |

Location: Illinois | Thank you all for the kind words and help. That article was very helpful. I have never had a horse this thin so I really had no idea about refeeding syndrome. I know it's going to be a long hard road but I just have to give him a chance. I know if I wouldn't have gotten him he would not have made it. He had access to grass hay 24/7 and I have been giving him a small amount of senior feed so I can get electrolytes in him. I'm going to keep a journal of his progress to keep everyone updated. I just hope he isn't to bad that the cold winter gets him. I do have him double blanketed though so I am sure that helps. |

| I bought her when she was 1 from a girl who got her as a weanling from the breeder in Ind. That is awesome. Please continue to let us know how this horse recovers. That really breaks my heart and those people should be in jail. Please do everything you can to find them and charge them. It will be a long road back, but he will recover and who knows the blessing you will get for having saved his life. Prayers to you. |

Location: Illinois | I know its right before Christmas and things may be tight but I have created a GoFundMe account for medical bills and feed that will be required for my boy to get him back to himself. Anything is very greatly appreciated. Bless you all.

Location: Illinois | He is still down today. Good thing is he is still eating and drinking as well as he can laying flat on his side. He keeps thrashing like he wants to get up he just can't find the strength to get up. He is in a nice big stall so he can't hurt himself but I am sure lying on his bony hips is got to hurt. The vet should hopefully be here shortly. |
