| I have a Billy Cooke barrel saddle, and it is super light with everything on it (breast collar, wither strap, girth, whip, leg gear, and bridle/tiedown/drop cavesson, plus I replaced the regular stirrups with aluminum stirrups.) I love it, but I would suggest replacing the off billet on any saddle you buy with nice nice quality. It came with decent quality leather that wasn't bad, but not top dollar, and the off billet snapped in the 4th ride during a run. Just a small tip overall.

What is the C 11 tree? Not to try and steal the thread, but I'm just wondering what body style horse that tree fits? |

Location: Midwest | Most treeless saddles are pretty light.
I would avoid a Crown C. I love mine, but it is heavy. Good leather is normally heavier than a thinner leather saddle. A wood tree is also heavier than a fiberglass tree. The Martin trees are wood coated in fiberglass.
I did have a Billy cook that was well made but pretty light. The skirt on it was small, but still a square. It had been well used before I got it but still looked great. It was the Billy Cook of Sulphur, OK. |

That was my thought when I looked at them, they certainly look like they would be light weight but the ads for this saddle all say 28 lbs. Is there any way you could weigh it and post the actual weight minus all the girths etc.? It would be greatly appreciated!
I'm at a cross roads, not finding much online that weighs 22 lbs or less which is what I was hoping for. I know a lot of you are saying you have a saddle that is very light but when I look online at the brand they are being listed as weigh more than what I'm wanting. I don't want to get another saddle that ends up being heavier than I was told; that happened with my Cactus, was told it was well under 30 lbs but in reality it weighs 30 lbs, that's just the saddle no girths etc. attached. Most of those suggested, even the treeless are listed as 26-28 lbs. A couple of the Circle Y Flex 2's are listed at 22 lbs and 1 Alamo is listed at 18 lbs but I haven't read very many good reviews on the Alamo's. I really wanted the Brazilian but having a hard time justifying that kind of money for a synthetic along with the mixed reviews adds to my quandary. I appreciate all of your responses, if you can dispel any doubts about actual weights etc. please do.

| Just heard back from Panther Canyon regarding the Sibley, they run about 26-28 lbs. Sadly that is much heavier than I want, though they are beautiful saddles! I really guess I'm needing the Brazilian, it surpasses the lightweight issue, nothing else is coming close. I'm not finding anything in a leather saddle that is going to be under 22 lbs. FYI I need a 15 1/2" seat, so that makes the weight of any saddle more. I really appreciate all the replies! |

Do you mean as far as material? I would have to look. It is FQHB with a lot of flare in the front for very wide shouldered horses. It also does not have a lot of rock in it so it fits a flat back pretty well. It think the gullet is 8" but don't quote me on that. |

I do have a new Brazilian saddle that I bought few months ago
it is very light when you put it on it feels like the weight of a
pad, I have a shoulder issue and it was hard to throw a heavy
saddle, that being said it is amazingly comfortable, I did change
the stirrups to wider for myself. I hope that helps.

| Have you ever thought about a Team Steinhoff Saddle?
They are lightweight and reasonable priced.
The Steinhoff's are great to work with and help with fitting your horse.

| I have a 14 marlene carbon fiber I am going to sell if interested. It's one of the lightest saddles out there. I got it for my horse who had back problems. I talked with marlene about them and they are extremely rare, I can pick it up with one hand and set it on my horse. The tree will last a lifetime.
2k or best offer or trade for a rough out:)

| Dusty Barrett makes a wonderful saddle. If you send him pic's of your horse, both sides & standing behind, he can tell you what gullet fits your horse best. I have 2 of his saddles & they are wonderful. Fits my horse's like a glove. He will make you whatever you want. Mine are all roughout & one he made me with a 4 1/2 cantle as a 5 will ruin my back & a 4, well I feel more secure in the 4 1/2. They weigh 25 lbs. He has different trees. Mine are the buster welsh tree. He also makes one of the saddles for the NFR. This is his saddle.
