The best thing you can say is nothing at all at this point. Let your actions do the talking . You contacted the law because their grandson left the scene of an accident without trying to establish a solution with you at the time. All you had to go off of was a license plate left at the scene and the cops handled it as they would any situation like that. Take the high road , it will feel better in the long run. You have nothing to prove to these people. If your husband is in agreement , maybe ask him to delete the comment and move forward with your life as it was before dealing with these people.

I will have to say I find it very very sad that the grand mother's mind set is to attack you and your husband.....all this knowing that her grandson caused damage, was involved in a vehicular incident, and chose to run instead of owning up to it.  If that had been one of us as kids....we learned the hard way to own up immediately.  We either located the closest responsible adult or waited until one came along.  We learned not to wait until we got caught.  It was just the right thing to do.

I am glad he did apologize and cleaned it up though.  That's a start.

Sounds like she's the "matriarch" of the 6 generation clan and she's putting you in your place as a "nobody newcomer"...lol....she probably likes a fight to prove her superiority, and no one is going to challenge her power or her throne...so ignore her...use the law to your advantage in future encounters and remember, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar...obviously she hasn't learned that yet....

p.s...I hate facebook and this is one reason why...I would get off it...

I wouldn't worry about it for one minute. she should have kept her thoughts to herself. Also sounds like the whole family needs a wake up call. The next time, he may kill someone.

That is the scary part! If they had been 100' further down the road they would have run right into my bedroom. Here is a pic, they took out the front fence and landed in a deep pea gravel rehab pen, if it wasn't for that they probably would have ended up taking out the trailer or the shed.

If he left from that scene I'm guaranteeing he's been drinking. Fled before he could get a DUI.

One thing I really get a chip on my shoulder about is the word "retard" being used as a synonym for stupid. Retardation is a condition. People with a normal IQ who make poor decisions should be called "stupid."

You had em by the gonads with the license plate! Why didn't you simply call the police instead of mouthing (or typing) off? Google grief!

Good luck!

We called the Sheriff first thing. Hubby posted mad and hoping to find out if anyone knew anything. It is a very small town so word gets around. We didn't find the plate until we started cleaning up. Other wise we would have been S.O.L. until grandma sent her little message.

I'm utterly amazed at their attitude. Especially referencing how long they've lived there. ----------True story. Years ago, a young man took his 4x4 truck out in one of my grandfathers soybean fields mudding. He sunk it to the frame, and ran off and left it. My grandfather stuffed a rag in the fuel tank set it on fire and walked away.

Sorry you're having to deal with this. We had a neighbor sue his next door neighbor because his dog barked. One night I came home from a race and heard the dog owner cussing. Then I heard gunshots. The drunk neighbor was shooting at him while he was feeding his dogs! I called the police and they came out and told him not to shoot at his neighbor and left!

So, the fact the people have been there for 6 generations counts for what?
Yes, save the note. It almost sounds like a veiled threat.  And I agree, don't answer her. It doesn't warrant one.

I'm not on Facebook, so I don't know how it works. But, my guess is if it works anything like BHW, grandma is already getting plenty of helpful advice from your other friends! Wish she could read some of the comments on here... I didn't respond, but I put that like button to good use.

Good grief, why do some people raise such irresponsible kids??

A similar thing happened at my parent's house when I was younger. The kids were so drunk and high they thought they were on the freeway. If we didn't have a ditch and a fence they would've hit the house and probably died.
Now the 'best' part...the driver was the son of one of my mom's coworkers!!! She promised he would fix the ditch and the fence...never happened. What is wrong with people?

I didn't read all the posts, so if this has already been stated, I apologize. I'm coming off a severe migraine and the words are wiggly, but I'm bored, so here I am... Lol
Anyway, you never called her grandson a retard. She did when she mentioned it was her grandson.
Additionally, "that's kids family" is totally screwed up grammar. The first sentence is a run on and kido should be "kiddo."  Apparently in 6 generations, they can neither drive nor use grammar properly.
I would ignore the dinks and change my settings to block them.

I would like to thank the ________ County Sheriff's Department and our neighbors for their help in identifying the person who ran through our fence the other night and for helping us get our fence repaired in a timely manner.  It's nice to know that we live in an area where everybody is concerned about keeping our roads safe and willing to take action when things go wrong.

Lol I like them both. One side of me really wants to tell them off but the other knows it is best to kill them with Kindness. Red Raider that is perfect so if you don't mind I will use it for a post!
