I never thought about it. Now I will every time. But I may take it to a local saddle maker and have him put a new seat in it. |

That might be your next surprise since the consistency of trees of late can be scary and is why Double J started making their trees in house as they were tired of sending trees back. Like I said...you just need a seat change. The rest of the saddle looks good to me. |

 The One

Location: South Georgia | In my opinion, a saddle maker should not offer a custom option that they cannot accurately pull off with skill. Therefore, since he has demonstrated that the cross inlay is too difficult for him, I'd ask him to replace it with a solid seat. I wouldn't just accept the $1900 saddle with that appearance. He needs to make it right, somehow. |

| To me the cross doesn't look that bad, I have seen worse.
Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the seat right now, I would be more worried about the tree as the bars look a little narrow |

I'm sitting here laughing by myself and my heeler is staring at me! This is hilarious!
And PS, if I paid THAT much for a saddle and it looked like that, I would poop a ring around myself! That is crazy!

kind of off topic, but when did Double J start doing their own trees? Was it fairly recent? |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | I agree with you ... BUT I also agree with the saddle maker. If you knew the difficulty of just puttiing in the seat alone with out the cross . You would be really happy to get a saddle in one piece. The saddle roll and all the stitching and all the lining underneath and all the conchos and the swell all must come off it. and all new leather must be used to redo the seat and all the layering underneath. Just to redo the maker .already took a 4 hundred dollar loss. Keep it wear it out a little and put it up for sale. Use the money to start over and save a cow. |

| It would bother me that I was not getting what I paid for. If it is too difficult for the sadle maker to make the cross look good he/she should not have agreed to do it. I would wonder if it would affect the resell of the saddle down the road. It may purely be cosmetic but someone may look at it and think it is not a well made saddle even though it might be. That is substandard work, I have seen tons of saddle seats with inlays that are crisp and sharp looking.
