I hired a personal trainer to help me start. She held me accountable for showing up, plus they are expensive so you don't want to waste the money. That's the best investment ever. It's been about a year and now we only meet once a week, and that's just so she can spot me when lifting heavy, or to give me some additional tips.
Eating clean is super key. Fruits, veggies, lean meats. Tuna, turkey, and chicken. That's not to say I don't "cheat". Yesterday I had a beer and some fries at a bar. Today, I'll be at the gym lifting. Don't do just cardio, LIFT HEAVY!!! You will be amazed at the changes your body will go through by lifting weights.
I also friended BUNCH of health and fitness pages on Facebook. Waking up and seeing the motivational pictures and phrases makes me want to work out right then and there.

| Working out definitely helps, but you lose weight in the kitchen. Map out your carbs and calories. Read up on high fat, high protein diets. Read up on how easily grains/flour are metabolized as sugar, which gets stored into fat.
If youre not losing, I would like to bet that through the week, your carbs are too high. Fruits, candy, drinks, bread, deserts, pasta, sauces, potatoes, dressings, are off the charts for carbs. Most of us would have to work out for 8 plus hours to burn the carbs off we eat in a day.
You might be doing yourself a disfavor by thinking low fat is the way to go. Go for a nice walk, it doesn't even have to be a mile, just go for one. Just get out your front door and get moving. I don't have many friends that have the want or ability to be in the gym. They all have time for a walk. I have time for a walk.
Changing your life style into eating differently means thinking differently. You shop differently, cook differently. You don't buy gas station food anymore. It's a lot different. It can be extremely satisfying if you make sure you don't get hungry. That in itself is a chore, because choosing the right foods can be daunting.
Get online and do some research on a lifestyle change and get started! I'm on phase two. Went grain free in September, now bringing carbs to a screeching halt for the first time in my life. I'm so excited.

I am about to pass the 150 mark on the scale and I have stretch marks on my stomach. Most days i'm okay but sometimes I just feel so depressed.. I've got my self into this cycle where I will buy healthy foods and eat good for maybe 1 day but then I just get sad about my body and say well "one bad meal won't hurt what I already look like".. But I know it also won't help. I've felt so many changes in my body, breathing is a little harder, riding is harder, walking up stairs or walking to class i'm out of breath, I fel sick and groggy most days. You would think seeing and feeling how bad my eating habits and lack of excersise is for me would be enough to change, but I have such a hard time doing so.. Any advice on how to get motivated?
Here is your question... Any advice on how to get motivated...
Every journey begins with the first step. You have to first make a decision that you want things to be different, and then you take that first step. If you are waiting for other people to motivate you or get you motivated, then you are setting yourself up for failure. True winners don't need motivation from the outside, because it comes from the inside. You should definitely seek out others that have the same goals because that keeps the flame ignited in you. There is no easy answer... You just decide what you want and you do it. The only thing stopping you is you. Make no excuses about why you can't do this or you can't do that. If there is an obstacle in your path, you find a way over, under, or around it. You wake up everyday and do what you have to do. And don't expect instant results. Good things come to those who wait. Draw strength from the Lord, know that He is on your side and will help you accomplish your goals!
Now that you're all motivated, just get started! ;)
YOU CAN DO IT!

I LOVED lifting... that's why it was so hard on me to watch my friend move. It seems like at my gym it's about 50:50 males to females, but its about 95% males that lift. I know that it's all in my head... but I don't really want to be the only girl lifting! We used to have a group of 3 to 4 of us that stuck together and did it. We were doing a program from a website... I think it was three capital letters. Kicked my butt and I couldn't walk for 2-3 days afterward, but I started to crave it! I think I'll look into doing something not so extreme. I get off at noon today and have to go buy horse feed..... I might as well hit the gym while I'm town!!

| The KISS method I use to lose weight is to eat 100 grams of lean protein per day and keep my carbs under 80 grams per day. The weight flies off. Calorie counting and exercise never has effected my weight loss much. Keeping my carbs under 80 grams per day keeps me losing weight and eating over 100 grams of lean protein(fish, chicken, steak, tenderloin) keeps me from getting hungry so it makes weight loss MUCH easier. I don't do hungry at ALL!! I make sure almost all my protein comes from meat because it fills me up much more than protein shakes and greek yogurt and doesn't spike your blood sugar with carbs. I try to spread my protein out to at least 30 grams per meal. Just to test it out....eat 4 ounces of grilled chicken breast with your next meal and see how much room you have for unhealthy carb loaded junk food after that. All this to say....I'm not perfect and I'd live on spaghetti, shells and cheese, and Mexican if I could but its very important to me to be healthy and not too heavy therefor I push aside the XXL spaghetti and make better food choices. I do use exercise to improve my fitness but I never use it to help lose weight....actually I have almost always gained weight when I've really gotten into exercising a lot for some reason....seriously! | |

| I would really recommend working with a personal trainer! That way, you are working with someone who can help you develop a plan to reach YOUR goals, and who can teach you to do the exercises properly - so you get the best results possible, and don't injure yourself. Also, I think working with a personal trainer can really help with motivation for a few different reasons: 1) You're paying for their time...and probably don't want to throw that money away! 2) You have someone to hold you accountable - you have an appointment with them, and they expect you to show up. 3) They can help you push through the last bit of a workout when you're ready to quit!
I would also think about working with someone to put together a meal plan. I always eat the worst when I don't have something planned out/prepared ahead of time.

Sometimes you gain weight working out because muscle weighs more than fat ... BUT takes up less space. It's not just about the number on the scale.

I got my coat hooked on my horn in a training session and it ticked me off that I didn't have the core strength to not get thrown forward. So everytime I want to take a day off or put a little less weight into my lift. I remind myself of little moments like that. Then proceed to talk *hit to myself lol. I am blessed to own really nice horses so I feel that I owe it to them to be the best rider I can be. God gave me these horses and I intend to not take them for granted.

There's a lot of truth to this.
It's tough somedays, but it becomes a habit. We eat tons of veggies (except potatoes and corn), no fruit, no wheat products, no sugar. You break the habit of grabbing something quick. My current addiction is sugar snap peas... I keep small bags of them instead of chips. Very little alcohol (as in a couple of glasses of wine every 2 -3 weeks). There's tons of calories in alcohol. :-(
When I want something bad, I try to think about my goals with my horse. I want out of the 2D and to be consistently in the 1D...therefore, I need to lose a bit to be as tough as I possibly can. My horses are my best motivation. Follow Jackie J on FB if you want to see someone that is absolutely hard core about busting her ass everyday to get better.

I absolutely love lifting, too. I have to force myself to do the treadmill when I go to the gym. I got a fitness tracker for my wrist. There's nothing more satisfying than getting the fireworks when I meet my goal for the day. I've gained 20 lbs since I started nursing school 3 years ago. Now that I've graduated I have no excuse not to work out. I'm still trying to get my schedule right since I work nights and my gym is only open 4am-11pm. I really wish it was open at 2am when I can't sleep.

I have a better idea... Go buy a full length mirror... Put it in your bedroom, so the first thing you see when you get out of bed every day is Yourself... If you're happy with that, so be it.

| Do not skip meals... If you over eat a meal, don't think that you are doing your body a favor by skipping the next meal. you have to eat to keep your metabolism kicked in high. If you over eat, just go for an extra walk that day, or get one of those fitness rubber bands and do some upper body workouts to save on your knees and feet. Also the rule that you are not suppose to eat after a certain time at night is not true, the body will metabolize "clean, healthy" food no matter the time of day or night. You just have to make sure you are eating because of hunger not boredom. High protein is a good snack before bed, your muscles will use it to repair themselves after a workout. Also, to those that are trying to cut all carbs out of their body, that is a very hard thing to do. Beans, vegtables, fruits all contain carbohydrates and your body needs those carbs. The brain alone uses 130 grams of carbohydrates per day. Carbohydrates are also necessary for serotonin production. I think the key to getting fit is recognizing that food is fuel for your body not for pleasure, and that working out can be simple. It doesn't mean a gym membership, three mile runs, or even an hour long workout. It means getting up and moving all through out the day. Don't take the elevator, take the stairs, when riding always post(it burns more than you would think), instead of using a wheel barrel to do morning chores walk back and forth to throw hay, when your watching tv at night use the commercial breaks as goals to do x-amount of an exercise before its over. And most importantly is to love yourself enough to give yourself the attention. A lot of us moms put ourselves on the backburner for our families. We deserve some of our attention too! Good luck to everyone! | |

| That's what I need, someone to put together a meal plan for me. I know what I should and shouldn't eat, it's just getting motivated to eat the healthy way. Plus also to come up with something to "take" to work so you don't eat out all time for lunch. Brown bag menus. Most of the time I just throw a can of soup in my bag. | |

Location: North of the 49th Parallel | Have 3 knee surgeries and then have your surgeon tell you that you're gonna need a 4th because it was still so bad. That got my butt in the gym real quick to strengthen. I had done 3 months in the gym around May-July, but I was just running. Now I'm more lifting weights and running is secondary. Am I anywhere near where I want to be? Nope, but I'm getting there. I gained about 20 pounds after my second knee surgery.
But as far as getting in the gym everyday- PREWORKOUT. There are some days that I'm tired and simply don't want to but preworkout sure gets my butt in the gym and motivated. Even at 10 pm after school and working. After 2 or 3 weeks or so, working out becomes an addiction and something you crave.

Hence the reason most men who normally have a lower body fat than woman seem to burn calories easier than we do.

| Well I sounded just like you. Then it hit me I needed to quit talking and start doing, but I had never worked out. I certainly didn't eat right. I found ATHLETIC RIDER-- Leah is a coach. She interviewed me- asked what do I eat, if it looks good I eat it, if it was good I eat two. Ice cream with the news every night, Ding Dong out of the freezer for a snack, Breakfast Coffee 3 sugars 3 creams, Gummy bears when I drive, Rasperita's when I get home from work. I really should have weight alot more. Leah asked me why I wanted to get more fit and eat right-- I told her I have a really nice filly I want to run the best we can..Since I turned 50 I've slowly been putting on weight... when my barrel horse turns left, my spare tire goes right and I horn jockey which makes my arms hurt because I'm not strong enough to hold myself on!.. This was not me-- I have been very successful in IPRA, MSRA,MBRA, NBHA, IBRA WPRA, was I ready to except not being quite as good as I once was... ??? HMMMMM.. So I started Shakology- which is a meal replacement, The first month came with a set of DVD for the exercise she felt you would need. I do PIYO- Piliates/Yogo/Balance/strength. 6 days a week. I was in bootcamp for 60 days in which you take a picture of what you are eating. I learned what was CLEAN eating. How to make better choices. Have a shake every morning. Do the daily workout with a sweatie selfie picture to the 12-15 other women in my group. All riders. I learned SO much. Portion control. 5-6 times a day to eat, lots of water.. which I don't really like but do it... I started Nov 15th, that is over Thanksgivings, Christmas, New Years... parties, family get togethers to eat.. I lost 17 lbs and 18 inches in 60 days. I am stronger than I have been in 3 years. I no longer am looking for the horn. My A Streak of Fling ran 8th in the 1D out of 108 entries last weekend. Pretty sure it was because she didnt' have to drag my spare tire around all three barrels. :) google Athletic Rider-- tell Leah you were set by a barrel racer! it works. OH and I knew I would not get up early, I don't like to go back out once I'm home after work. So doing everything at home worked for me. Sorry so long but I have changed my eating life style... I don't like to exercise but I like the results so I do it. Burpies are the worst. I still just watch sometimes.. :)
