Location: Bastrop, Texas | I am skeptical, to put it mildly. I don't know how thoroughly this has been evaluated in horses, but it's almost completely useless in human medicine. Not long ago it was the rage amongst naturipaths and quacks and promoted as an alternative to mammography.
Carry on! |

Location: scurry, tx | thks bear i understand i have talked to a couple of vets and 1 of them told me what they had used them for, they used them on alot of vet checks for 1 , needle sticks show up for several days.... i also planned on getting higher certifications to use it in different fields, but since i have a co that does equine therapys i thought maybe this would be an added tool..... |

You can buy the camera on Amazon, even for your iphone. Its cheaper. I imagine you could find some type of manual online somewhere too. I don't know that you absolutely have to go with this particular group or through a ton of training. If the training involved some ideas around anatomy, saddle fit issues, etc., well there are books on that too. I don't see, assuming you believe in the efficacy of this diagnostic tool, why you couldn't effectively train yourself. Hot areas are not exactly hard to spot on those cameras so long as you have one. Unless of course the piece of paper is more important?? I guess it depends on how much you are wanting to do this on just your own horses or others. But even these people had to start out somewhere. I don't see why you don't try to build your own program and just consult with a lot of vets. It'll save you a ton of money and you'll probably actually learn more as you explore. |

| They have a few lawsuits against them. . . I try to warn as many as I can. They also sell products that aren't what they're labeled. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | What it all boils down to is that "thermography" basically lights up areas where there is increased blood flow, in comparison to surrounding tissue. In humans it hasn't panned out as a very useful tool. In theory, it sure sounds logical, but study has not validated it's usefulness. Medical history is replete with such examples that have been relegated to the ash heap. Careful trial and analysis has served us well, in that regard.
The quacks are very clever in their wording. They are artists in that kind of deception. They combine that with testamonials and endosements, careful (albeit very deceptive) packaging and they make a pile of money. Ultimately the product is deemed worthless, but in the meantime their coffers are filled with money fleeced from the gullible....oops! Then, they move on to another gimmick. Some very famous (or should I say infamous) docs have made a fortune promoting junk. I could write a book on quackery, seriously. One of these days I'm going to sit down and start a thread dealing with spotting quackery. It just kills me to see good people fall for junk science repeatedly and spend their hard earned money for nothing. |
