| My colt at the reining trainer had a case of Strangles last fall. He did the right thing! Caught it early, let us know, and administered treatment there as to not infect other horses at my house. Now the colt is doing GREAT! Cant imagine a trainer not seeking treatment for ANY kind of illness. BLOWS MY MIND how irresponsible people can be with others' property. Praying the DTF colt makes it through. |

| How about the fact she had them 2 months and had yet to ride them?? I bet the owners were still paying the same monthly amount that people were paying whose horses were being ridden. The whole deal sounds like a mess, if I had a horse with her right now, I would be making a trip to her place with my trailer. |

| I just got mine back from 3 months of training, the trainer called me if my horse coughed or got a scratch and would send me pictures and ask if I wanted him to call a vet. He might have been over doing it the other direction, but after seeing this, I am so thankful he was that way and not the way this trainer is. |

Location: Phoenix | Dear God....those pictures are terrible. My personal horse got bastard strangles and you couldn't really tell right off the bat. I think we dosed with high amounts of penecillin and even then the vet didn't think he'd live. Here's here to this day....but WHAT could her side of the story be?! To act like everything is ok?! It really makes you wonder! |

| I found mine at a reputable trainers facility in a dry lot with the strangles! No vet was contacted and I was not contacted. The trainer was at Ft. Smith running some horses so I decided to go see my gelding....it was awful! He was in a dry lot outside and his had already busted. He was so thin and poor. And the sad thing is...just the week before I seen this trainer at a barrel race and I asked him how my gelding was doing? He said.." he is just fine"! He lied to my face. We took pics and called the state vet and I reported him. I wont disclose his name but if you pm me I will tell you who it is. I have no respect for him! My horse was in poor condition and a vet and myself should have been notified. My horse was also in contact with 4 other horses. It was a bad situation. My gelding was so depressed and weak. I cried for a long time after it happened. And this trainer has graced the cover of magazines! I feel so bad for these ppl and their horses...just heartbreaking =(

I, also, wonder about their vaccination status, because that sure is an argument for everyone that says don't vaccinate.
Those horses are going through Purpura, way worse than Strangles. You can let Strangles run it's course, Purpura needs treatment. That is an incredibly painful illness.
Those legs are so swollen that they have broken open and are seeping serum and blood. That is intolerable negligence and cruelty. The civil side of this may be expensive, but criminally the charges are not enough for this kind of abuse.
Here's an article that explains it well: http://www.extension.umn.edu/agriculture/horse/health/purpura-hemorrhagica/ |

Thanks for that. So, the purpura can come from the vaccination and following a case of strangles? Is that how I read it? There is no way that someone could look at that and not realize something needs to be done.......even if it's euthanize. |

| I just went and looked to see if she was going - I dam sure don't want to be anywhere around her. The only place she should be going is to jail. She can tell the judge her side of the story. |

Purpura is not contagious. When traveling and competing you just need to be responsible and do all you can to care for your own horses and prevent what you can, sometimes stuff happens.
This situation is not acceptable no matter the excuse....but, educate yourself on diseases before you overreact. There are plenty of other people that skip out on vaccinations that will be there as well. |

| From what it reads they got Purpura after they contracted strangles. So strangles is still there. |
