not sure of the exact price but through my vet .. she said its about $100 a dose. I only bought the 4 doses..if I have to do more, I''ll start shopping around ...

Once you start you don't stop or you just wasted your money on the loading dose.

I did the loading dose, which is 7 viles spread across every 3rd day. And then I do the once a month as a maintenance. Been doing this for about 10 years. Some of my friends use Pentosan. They weren't displeased with it but the horse now has discoloration on the neck where they give the shot. Dark Dark spots that are in a large area on the neck. Very strange. Just makes me wonder what else it is doing that you can't see. Anyone else have discoloration from pentosan?

Cowgirl Kat - 2015-03-18 10:24 AM I use Adequan and have for probably almost 10 years. I feel like it did help my horse and it also helped preserve her joints. I did the 7 doses as the loading dose that my vet recommended and then did the once a month shot after that as a maintenance. The first horse I used it on is 20 years old now and the vet is surprised at how well her joints are and that she still has space in between then for the amount of competing she did. She still acts like an 8 year old. My horses get Adequan and Legend. Pleased with how they all move and feel
what kind of schedule did you have them on when using Adequan and Legend? I just got a bottle of Pentosan Gold, should I also use Legend?

I would try it and see how your horse is. I have been told by my vets that one works better below the knees and the other works better above the knees. Can't remember which one does what. So that is why I use both.  I spread them apart so they are two weeks apart.

I love adequan I think it's amazing! I actually give it every weekend when we are running and hauling hard. My performance vet said for me to give pentosan with my adequan, otherwise the pentosan doesn't work as well. I also like legend, but Ive never been able to find it cheap enough to justify it. And if you're paying $100 a dose for adequan you're getting ripped off!!!

No problems here with pentosan. I will tell you this, my good horse was on PREVICOX DAILY for 2 years! After starting pentosan he has NOT had any previcox since last July and is staying sound! My vet told me it kind of washes the arthritis from the joint. No discoloration where shot was given. I do adequan load dose once a year and pentosan monthly inbetween.

Well that is encouraging. Maybe it is just a California thing. But we have multiple horses here that have this discoloration.

Also I try not to use the neck for any IM shots. Low Hind Quarter if possible. In case they do have reaction its better to have a sore butt than neck. And I am from California! LOL
