Location: Where I am happiest | So appearantly the seller knew fullwell there was a pre-existing issue and lied to you anyway saying the horse was 100% sound. There is alot you can do and I'd make the seller meet half way to retrieve their lame duck. |

Location: Canada | I'd call the seller and see if they would be willing to take the horse back. If they aren't there isn't a lot you can do about it.
Call the seller and be calm and courteous and explain that you aren't happy with the horse because it is lame and that you'd like to return the horse and get your money back. If they agree then MAKE time in your schedule and get that horse back. Leaving it lame on your property won't help the situation and in fact can backfire on you.
If they'll take it back get it packed up and on it's way whether you have to call a friend, take a day off or do whatever it is you have to do to get it back there FAST.

Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | I have to agree with, if they will take it back to get it back there fast and chalk this up as a learning experience. I recently had a dealing with someone that I sold a horse too that I had reservations about selling to, but I had driven 5 hours to Texas to pick her up from the 1st person that bought the mare (who is going through a divorce, which I understand) and let this lady, who was a friend to the first lady, buy her once I got there. They never mentioned this to me before I made that trip. I let her go for a ridiculously low price, because I let my heart make the call, instead of my brain. Anyhow, the next day the 2nd lady phones saying that when she got home, her husband got very angry that she had bought the horse. So, I made arrangements with two trainers in an attempt to do what was best for the filly because I couldn't put her for sale again after selling her twice within a few months (because it would look like something was wrong with the filly, when there isn't). After all of my arrangements, the 2nd lady calls me back and says she wants me to cash the check because she has talked to her husband and does want her now. At that point I'd had enough. It was a week of making arrangements, but we finally got her in one of the trainer's hands with daily calls from this lady asking to keep her. She's now in Oklahoma getting her training. I know this has nothing to do with you and I probably just wanted to tell my story lol to get it out. The best thing that can come out of your situation, in my opinion, is for you to get that horse back to the owner and get your money back. I would recommend you doing a vet check next time. Good luck. I hope it all works out. Thanks for letting me get my little story out lol. |

Since its only been 3 days and the horse is lame I would take the horse back too. Have you talked to the seller about this horse being lame? Yep, cancel the check and bring the horse back. If they have cashed the check, you may have problems with them. Yept......First thing Monday morning I would be calling my bank to see if the check was cashed yet. Oh gosh,, did you pay with a check? Sure hope so.... Another fine question lol. I try, just nosey mostly Lol, I did in fact pay with a check.
The Vet check was done within 6 months. I did think maybe it could have been stiffness from the trailer ride until the seller got back to me. The seller told me they would get me more info on the Vet record because they couldn't remember specifics, but never did
. All I know is that I told the seller about the lameness, and the seller pinpointed the exact location of where I saw the issue so I knew it was in fact a pre-existing condition.
My Vet will charge 75 farm call and at least 75 for a lameness exam base price before having to do any blocking, or x-rays of course. I had thought about doing this but didn't want to be out that much more cash and still find out horse isn't usable.
Told seller I would be bringing horse back, which is another day trip at my expense. On top of the fact that seller has limited availability of when I can bring it back to which I won't be available, and my work schedule is so hectic i'm not sure when I can get it back up there.
Thinking it may be worth having my Vet out? Highly doubt seller would take lower price just from tone of things.
If they are willing to take the horse back do it now dont wait, the longer you wait they may change their mind about taking it back. And they could try to blame you for the lamness, so take it back within a few days. This could kick you in the butt if you wait to long, something else could happen to the horse while in your care. |

Location: South | Oh, I know. That's all I can think about. If I had a padded stall it's safe to say I'd put the horse in it! Lol! Thanks for all your helpJust frustrated that if the seller would have told me in the first place, I would not have even wasted the fuel to go get it, let alone drive it back. There goes a portion of my new horse fund. And if I were the seller and knew the purchaser wasn't happy, I would have been driving myself to pick up my horse. But yes, lesson learned. |

Common Sense and then some
Location: So. California | I would take the horse back today, not tomorrow, TODAY. Take the time off work, do what you have to do, get that horse returned to the seller and pronto - the longer you have the horse in your possession, the easier it is for the seller to claim that it is your fault. The responsibility for the PPE is on the buyer and I personally would not accept a 6 month old vet check. 6 months is a long time and anything can happen in 6 months.
Did you talk to the vet that did the alleged vet check? Did your vet talk to them? Just take the horse back to the seller and chalk up the loss as a lesson learned. |

THIS ^^^^^ is not your problem....since you have it in writing that you will be bringing the horse back if there is "any" problems and you contacted her within 24 hours....it is HER responsibility to be available for you to bring the horse back. I would NOT wait past the "week" allowed......JMO ! |

The seller has refused to meet today, and tomorrow. Can hardly haul several hours and just leave the horse. |

Take him home, tie him in a stall (take a picture and a witness) and leave.

^^^^ THIS! And, if they agreed to take it back, but won't work with you to be available, I would take it back whether they were home or not. It never hurt a horse to stand tied anyways.... |

At this point I would hope no more than free.
But really, just take it back. This horse is already costing you extra, besides feed, and generally if they are a headache from the beginning chances are they will remain that way.
