| So glad the mare is okay but sorry for the loss of the babies:( However I am confused as to why all the twins this year-if my mare has twins at checkup after breeding the vet will pinch one off. I know a lot of mares have twins with no problems-but.... |

Location: Oklahoma | The mare owner let me know that the mare is ok and will be ok. Which is good news. The initial ultrasound at 18 days showed only one embryo. I do not know what other checks were done by the mare owner. I only own the stallion she was bred to. It hurts for me as much as her. This would have been my stallions first foal and his only in 2015. After seeing the pictures of the twins, I do know that he throws color and chrome. The buckskin filly had his blaze and 4 white socks, one of which went to her knee.
Even though I didn't lose the foals myself, I still feel the pain as if it were my mare. |

Location: Drumright,OK | To "pinch one off"" you have to find them! In my case, several years ago my mare tried to have twins twice. Both times it was caught on the ultrasound. However the third time it showed one baby. She had twins! Shocked everyone vet included. One colts legs were sticking out on top of the first ones head! Freaked us out. My husband had to push him back at the same time he pulled the first one out with every contraction! Whew I was praying. All three survived. It was a miracle! Ultrasounds can miss it.

Location: Where I am happiest | I am so glad to hear the mare is going to be ok. So sad she lost them both. My heart aches for all of you. As for all the twins this year, it really is pretty bizarr and we here are all holding our breath. We have a mare due next month to FWOTR and at first 14 day preg check there were 2. He wanted to wait another week and re-check because he said most times mother nature will correct it on it's own and on first check the way they were positioned he said chances are if he tried to pinch one we would lose both because of the way they were. So second check, he only saw the one. Well now, the mare is HUGE. Way bigger then she was last year with her Frenchmans Fabulous foal but that was her first. Hind sight we should have checked again a little later but any later we would either have to completely terminate, or go with it. Now I wish we had checked again just to be sure. Praying we are just alot bigger this year because it's her second foal. All these twins this year make me nervous.

Location: Drumright,OK | Threecorners Will be praying for your mare. I thought my mare was going to have one BIG colt that year. We even took picks, but it was twins. So unexpected, but looking back we should have suspected. Just keep close eye on her. I did just because I always wanted to be there anyway.
