want2chase3 - 2015-05-05 1:41 PM I have a question. I typically feed beet pulp in the winter months for extra water going in. I don't both much with it in summer or spring because the flies seem to be more attracted to it. Anyway, we've gotten pounded these last few days with flooding rain and my entire barn got flooded out. My stalls still have about 3 inches of water floating. So I've had to move my crew into the indoor arena which connects to the outdoor area we usually feed our roundbale in. So they do have access to it but can come inside the indoor to get out of the weather and stay dry. My indoor is very sandy.. and I've had to feed in there. My horses drop feed and of course eat it off the ground along with their alfalfa hay. I'm now worried about sand getting in them. I'm wondering if I should treat for sand or just start feeding them beet pulp again. It'll probably be a few more days till I can get them back in their stalls and back to normal living conditions.

Absolutely treat them

Mine was turned out in an indoor and flat ate sand. Almost lost him.

Vets can also tube them with psyllium.

I tried metamucil but could not get mine to eat it. I fed pelleted psyllium, be it sand clear or another product of psyllium husk.

Our little grassy area finally dried up enough I'm gonna turn them out there and I can feed out there now instead of in the indoor. I can't post this article I read online but this vet/scientist claims that all these sand treatment supplements are worthless says the best thing to move sand they pick up is hay.. interesting.

Bibliafarm - 2015-04-30 8:40 PM Id also add soaked beet pulp.. it helps

will soaked beet pellets work? The TSC in my area stopped carrying the shreds, and only carry pellets now.
