Why pick the scabs off ? Seem like it would slow the process down and scar worse.
It does have a smell but I assume ita flesh that's dying off. No temperature.
My question as well. Once an injury scabs, you will not have to battle the proud flesh. The leg injuries I have dealt with I always pressure bandaged, formed a scab and then breathed a sigh of relief....

Not sure where you are located at, but if you can find someone who will do Accuscope treatments for you, the healing time will be cut in half and you won't have to worry about proud flesh.

I am the one that rehabbed the horse in the picture of legs cut open on first page. I only picked off scabs daily per vets reccomendation while I was battling proud flesh for a short time. Not all of it was scabbing just parts and I was scrubbing the dead proud flesh tissue everyday. Once I got the proud flesh under control and could safely leave a bandage off it scanned up very well and then I could let it be and keep treating it with what I was using. If I knew how to post pictures I wish I could. I had two seperate vets look at this horse and they were both amazed by how quickly and great it healed.

In I'm mobile Alabama. I haven't found one yet. A acuscope/myoscope. Need to call the universities.
Ok. I've picked a little scabs off from the outside of the wound. I wish I could post pictures. :/

You can call Joyce at Animal Therapy Systems and she can tell you if anyone is in your area. Just do a search for it, her number is there.
(I don't have it available right at the moment

UPDATE---- this mare is already trotting. 1 week after her accident.
Did take her to have it cleaned up. We are all the way to rhe bone on the left forearm. Some tissue had died around it.
She's a tough girl and in very good spirit!!

A respond laser would also decrease the healing time.
